TDV6 or TDV8? Pros and cons?

Hey Everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a black 2007/2008 RRS with beige or ivory interior. I've found a few 3.6 TDV8 online and wondered if this is right model to buy as 1st RRS? or if the 2.7 TDV6 is better? Are there any common faults/problems (besides it being juicy) to consider?

Thanks eveyrone.

Dylan

Dylan, use the search facility at the top of the page, it will bring up pages and pages of comments on both models. Thumbs Up Anyone with the 3.6 will say thats the best model to buy and that the 2.7 is too sluggish, but it really depends on what you want the vehicle for. There are issues with both models for you to look out for, the search facility will bring them all up for you, and once you have read a few of them you might have second thoughts about getting a sport. Whistle But try not to be put off too much, just do your homework before you buy and make sure its got a good warranty. Wink
Welcome to the site. Thumbs Up

Drive both, and you will go for v8. As stated both have their issues, my honest opinion is aim as high as you can go, SDV6 is far better than TD's. if your on a budget, they are not easy to run and keep up together so look out for previous owners shortcuts. And do not buy one without a decent ((land rover) warrantee. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Test drove a TDV8 over the weekend and it felt like nothing I've experienced before! I had to really hold back from signing then and there. Plan to test drive a V6 this weekend also to see how it feels.
Pretty much know RRS aren't cheap, but It's what I want so hey...
Question; how do I extend the warranty beyond the 1 year? Also can I call Range rover with the VIN for a car history or something similar?

Cheers,

A friendly dealer should be able to tell you the history inc warrantee claims. If the car is covered, you just go to dealer or on line and extend it. If it lapses, then you need to pay for 150 point used car inspection prior to being accepted. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I have had both a TDv6 and a TDv8. Kept the TDv6 for 2 years and the TDv8 for 6 years. Loved every minute of driving the TDv8. The TDv6 was just "ok". As I have said before - the TDv6 "showers you" in power and torque, whilst the TDv8 bathes you in a luxurious warm bath of both.

PS my TDv8 might now be for sale. Check the For Sale & Wanted section. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

07 Cayenne s vs RRS TDV6

Found and test drove an amazing Cayenne S and wanted to hear from ex Cayenne owners on how it compares with the RRS.

Cheers,

I test drove the tdV6 also before I bought the tdV8 and I was very impressed. Its obviously not got the same power as the tdV8 but very smooth all the same.

After test driving the tdV8 though there was no comparison for me. I had to have it. That was 2 years ago now. It's up for sale although doesn't look to be to your spec. Mines Stornoway grey with beige interior. Check out my gallery even just for a look if you want.

Cheers,

Considered a Cayenne myself and you just know as it's a joint VAG/Porsche conceived that it will be great build quality (have owned and worked on Porsches for years). Land Rover on the other hand have a shall we say 'slightly less' emphasis on build quality. But the important bits like engine (Ford) and gearbox (ZF) are fine.

But what swung it for me was the thought of everybody saying 'Yes but the Cayenne is so ugly' and it is; let's be honest it's a pig to look at. Whilst everybody recognises and secretly or overtly admires Land Rovers -have had more than one comment like - 'what a beautiful car' at petrol stations. Both are a great drive. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I'm in the same boat at the moment.

Tdv8 sounds nice and plenty of power.

Tdv6 bit slower but mapped is better, more mpg.

Both look the same, which for me is a problem as if the tdv8 had a different look it might sway it.

@Paddi spot on the Cayenne is a mug to look at! But drives very well.
I'd settle for a mapped TDV6 methinks.

Slightly bizarre reasoning in my opinion. However, the TDV8 does come with ACC which has a small box in the radiator opening. Later TDV8 also have a badge on the back saying "TDV8".

With so many people changing the look of their RRS, the fact that the TDV8 and TDV6 look the same isa bit moot really anyway. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
