From what I read from searching in iTUnes / Apps it uses the iPhone's accelerometer (the device that allows the screen to flip between landscape and potrait views) and the GPS(A) for the speed and distance calculations. I'll try to printscreen and print it to a pdf or msword the blurb and post it in my gallery.

There is also an associated app called Dynolicious Log Box that records vehicle data at specified intervals from a small as 1/100th sec. but I haven't played with that one yet.
