Fails in France!

It's been a while since I have posted...been enjoying the v8 too much.... at least until now.

On hols in Ile de Re, France (close to La Rochelle), came back to the car after a day on the beach and the Censored steering lock won't disengage. Tried everything short of too much brute force and breaking the key!

Left the car last night, taxi back to Hotel and called LRA. Now waiting for their call. Looks like I maybe driving home in 2 days in a hire car (hope not).

Can't believe this has happened. Looking around, can't see anyone else has had this problem. Should be child's play to unlock the steering. Maybe ignition has failed.

First trip away with the new v8. Great drive but have noticed a few things which, if the car makes it back, will go into the dealer:

1. Lumbar support doesn't hold. If you inflate (assume that is the case) it up it goes back down after a while.
2. Have noticed steering wobble around 50-60 mph (not been an issue in Guernsey Smile )
3. Rear brakes squeal at walking pace
4. Have been noticing steering/suspension knocking. An old chestnut on these forums.
5. Boy, is the sun roof rattle starting to annoy me. The plastic just rattles when on rough road.

...and boy is changing the lights for right side driving easy !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sat Nav is good, though didn't understand why it sent me thru Rennes and not around the ring road.

...and did I say the engine is good Smile .

Will post you on my eventual resolution. And if anyone has had similar...drop a reply.

Cheers

Haven't heard that one either... Confused The others are reasonably well reported though and with the exception of the infamous knocking should be easily enough solved by your dealer if he has his brain switched on. Good luck Robbi, let us know what transpires Thumbs Up

LRA have been very good. Within 3 hours I had a taxi from hotel to National Car hire. With 4 hours the car was picked up. Unfortunately the local Land Rover dealers are very busy, it seems, and we have decided just to repatriate the car. It will take upto 3 weeks though!

The recovery guy tried to fix the car. Used his own battery (apparently my local dealer has had similar issues which was down to flat battery) and still no luck. I wished I had my spare key fob in case that is the cause. But the doors were opening and closing OK...but maybe it didn't recognise the key as being valid for the car. Good old electronics are probably to blame. Thought it was better to leave the spare at home...maybe a bad idea.

It wasn't pleasant seeing my car being pulled by it's back and front alloys so that it could be lined up to the loader. Of course the hand brake couldn't be disengaged and the fronts were locked slighty off from straight. I hope they don't do too much of that when getting it back.

I must say, this and the paint issues I had with the v6 has dented my feellings about Land Rover cars.

Look forward to finding out why it happened. Will see what compensation I can get from LR?

Regards

....here's the update. All seemed to be going well until LRA phoned me to say the car had been damaged!

Details are sketchy but it seems the last recovery agent used to bring it on the ferry but it on a low trailer which tipped over and has damaged the whole of the drivers side. Havn't got close up to it yet (in a lockup) but looks like all panels down the side damaged plus the side of the roof and drivers window smashed and alloys etc damaged.

I'll post a photo when I can get closer.

Feel a replacement (the 2nd) coming along! Rob

Without a doubt - a damaged car is never as easy to resell even if repaired well. It does affect the price even if they tell you it doesn't. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Thanks for the messages, guys. Not as bad as I was expecting but still extensive and thats the damage you can see. No doubt will have mechanical damage.

See the pics:
