It's true there is a 3.5 V8 diesel on the way probably in the RR first later this year and then the RRS but then again who knows? But LR aren't giving any clues as to when and which model first.

I was told by my local dealer principal that it will arrive in the full size range rover in November this year, and the RRS after that. Now: Range Rover Vogue TD6, JE Stage 1. (Green!)

So does anyone think us mortals will be able to lay our hands on just the V8 engine so that we drop it in as a replacement? MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

I doubt it very much - it would be a costly exercise even if it was a simple operation and it could well be that further mods need to be made to support the engine anyhow - new drivetrain components etc etc. It would take a brave man to take it on, I think.

Not at all, if the new 3.6 DV8 is as fast off the mark and top speed as the S/C and even better economy I'll be looking to get one! Now: Range Rover Vogue TD6, JE Stage 1. (Green!)

Hang on this a LR product................ they'll probably market this as being better............. maybe a whopping 18mpg around town Shocked I can only imagine its going to be more thirsty than the 2.7v6

We really need something like the V10 twin-turboed Touareg which produces an exceptional 553lb ft of torque at 2,000rpm — Displacing 4,921cc, its ten cylinders are arranged in two banks of five-cylinders, each with its own individual high-pressure pump-injection unit. Twin turbochargers stoke up the power to an impressive 308bhp, but it's not the power but the V10's staggering torque that blows just about every other diesel — and a lot of large capacity petrol models — into the weeds.
The V10 Touareg weighs in at 2,524kg - Even fully-loaded, the 308bhp Touareg comes off the block like a sportscar, passing 60mph in 7.8 seconds and it doesn't stop until the speedometer needle is steady on 140mph.

If you're thinking that this all adds up to a horrifying, single-figure fuel consumption, you're mistaken. Our test average worked out to a
very creditable 23mpg overall — matching VW's official figure. Urban consumption is 16.5, and extra-urban 28.8mpg. HHmmmmm

it looks like a Passat on stilts though, and now the passat has been updated it looks like an out of date passat!

I would bet money that the new diesel V8 will be just as poor economy wise and the current version V6. Now: Range Rover Vogue TD6, JE Stage 1. (Green!)
