Unlocking with dead battery..??

Reading another forum ( spit spit) there was a long thread on how to get in when the battery was dead..weird ways to charge the battery thro the number plate lights ( ?? ) so I looked around for a key hole .
I found a lock symbol on the LH front door and reference to the manual showed that behind this is an emergency key hole.

QUESTION

Is this a mechanical lock that will open with a dead battery or a switch to activate the lock solenoids? Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

There should be a blade in your key fob,, prise the small cover off the door handle (passenger door I think) a there is a mechanical lock behind it which will open the door. If you have a tow socket fitted I think you can power the car from there also,, Google the pin connections and put a battery charger on the pos and neg. That may be enough to power the central locking to get you in 2010 RRS, TDV8

It’s a mechanical lock. Very stiff to operate due to lack of use. Fear of breaking

Charge thru white tow socket.
Earth pin3
+ pin 4

Or pins 3 (earth) and 9 (+ve) if you have a 13-pin tow socket.

Thanks ..no tow socket or even wires under the boot floor.
If I can get in and open the bonnet there is no problem. I have another battery in the RH box.

The passenger door manual lock will get you in. Take care - it can be very stiff and thus feel like you're about to snap the key. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
