20" Wheels & Tyres

Hi All,

I am driving a RRS TDV8 (08 model) that have the standard currently set of 20" 10 spoke wheels on it.

I have found these to be very soft and when cleaning they scratch - this is a common problem I understand and one that has been reported back to my dealer, but I was looking for a set of Stormer Wheels & Tyres - anyone know where I can get a set from, new if possible?

Also, the 22", are they genuine LR wheels or only after market?

Thanks,

Russell. "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

22'' are only after market - just added them to mine - ok ride is slightly firmer, but otherwise perfect!

Nearest to OEM you can get are original Overfinch - but you're looking at £3500!!!

What even the 20" stormers cost £3500?

Sorry for being ignorant but what does OEM mean?

Thanks,

I have just contacted Nick and Darren who are sending some pics to me so I can have alook at some alternatives.

I suppoes the question is would I prefer OEM or not due to the weight of these things.

Tim, have you done anything with yours?

I'm running the standard OEM 20's complete with the front nearside slightly kerbed! I have a spare set of 19" 2.7 HSE wheels shod with Pirelli Snow and Ice tyres that I bought for winter use and having been away most of the winter I haven't fitted them yet! I haven't noticed any scratching from washing though. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Guys.....yes the wheels look wonderful; - but truth be told, and I have been umming and ahhing about this since the weekend - I keep thinking back to the ride on the 20 S/Charge wheels - and I do have to say I miss the smoothness of the original wheels - it just seems to glide with the previous ones, and still does with the new ones, but not all the time - any imperfections on a road seem to come thru to the car. Ok, it's not a major issue - but the smooth ride is what sold me on this car in the first place - so I might be getting my old ones back. Sounds like a lot of hassle - but I have a trip to Manchester this weekend - will see how I get on on the motorway etc. Seems a shame as they car looks incredible with them on but......

Exactly the reason i put 20 " overfinch copies and not the 22 , just didnt want the harder ride . If you like the style of overfinch you can get them in 20's.

The ride is even better on 18" wheels......................... that's where I came from, a TDv6 SE on the stock 18's and the ride was as good as on the FFRR that I ran, now the new car is running on 20's and the ride is harsher but it isn't uncomfortable at all - noisey but still beautiful.
NickM it's all down to the compliance of the sidewalls. When the FFRR was launched the largest wheels that could be fitted were 19's. People went out and and fitted 22's and even 24's and, especially with the TD6 version, then complained to LR that there was unacceptable wheel vibration when the car was stopped and idling, manifested by a vibration in the steering wheel that made it uncomfortable to hold.
When moving the vibrations couldn't be felt in the steering but unknown to the owners they were destroying drive train components with the vibes. The cause took a long time time to trace, but it was found to that the low profile tyres were not absorbing the TD vibes like the higher profile 18's and 19's were. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

really surprised!!!

noticed everyone seems to be experiencing problems apart from me!!! then again i'm not taking mine of road! I really didn't notice much difference if any at all. So a suppose i'm not taking it to the right places yet??? But then I live in surrey... pretty good roads i guess!!! but then again I would rather have the looks as the 20" just dont look right!
