I am getting a little concerned at the level of wear to the outside 3" of all four tyres.
My RRS was delivered at the end of December 2007 and has done less than 8000 miles but the wear is concerning me as I am begining to think that all four tyres will need replacing at around 10,000 miles which I feel is totally, totally unacceptable.

Both my wife and I drive in a way that normally tyres last us well in excess of 20k miles. I drive for a living and have had tyres last into 30k+ miles before considering changing.

I have seen postings on this forum previously about tyre wear and am concerned that a dealer may try to fob me off so need a dealer that will stand my corner with LR to get the problem fixed and tyres replaced.

Does anyone have a similar experience with a positive outcome in the south eat of the UK and able to share the dealers name.

If the tyres need replacing at 10k miles this makes the RRS an expensive vehicle to run.

Jon there have been problems with abnormal tyre wear on some cars - you may need to get the tracking looked at. There are numerous posts from people with the same issue. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I'm approaching 2 yrs, 18,000 miles on my 19"s with Pirellis. Front two need replacing now and the back two are still good for another 2,000 miles. One of the front's is losing a little air slowly, so I suspect the valve or a slow puncture. Tracking is sooooo important on these tyres, as if it's off, all the wear from (what is a heavy vehicle) is on a small contact area.
10,000 miles is not acceptable - sounds as if your tracking is off somewhat - take it back to the dealer!!

I got the best part of 25,000 miles on my 19" Pirelli Scorpions before replacing the wheels and tyres before Christmas. (It was cheaper to buy 'almost new' wheels & tyres from Ebay, than 4 new tyres from one of the main tyre ntworks).

My old wheels and tyres are in the back of my garage and they still have 3 - 4mm of tread left on them. I'm now saving for a nice set of MTR's to replace the worn rubber.  Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Mine chewed through tyres like nobody's business at greater rate than yours John - two replacement sets in 26k it took me. I didn't really drive in a sensitive fashion though I have to say, but the trouble with this car is that being the weight it is, any misalignment is going to be somewhat magnified in terms of wear. Regardless of whether it happens to lots of cars, it's not normal...

As previously mentioned mine are wearing badly on all four outer edges (about 2 1/2" from the edge). Bald as a Coots A e.

Done about 13K - 14K. But the centre 2/3 is very much legal and good for a few more miles yet.

It's the centre 2/3's that matter. The outer edges may not look pretty but they don't make the tyres illegal.

I've had the four wheel alignment done and it was spot on. So tracking isn't the cause, so must be my driving style  TDV6 - gone

If any cord starts to appear they will be changed straight away.

This happened on my TDV6 as well. No blow outs yet. TDV6 - gone

39,000 miles on original 19" Conti's which now need to be replaced. Almost all Interstate (motorway) driving in the 70/80 mph range (God bless the 75 to 80mph speed limit in west Texas and New Mexico). I don't drive slow, but I'm easy on the gas and brakes, and check the air pressusre regularly. Also, original brake pads were at 6mm all round at last service (37,500 miles). 2011 BMW X3 35i Carbon Black

35K on 18" Conti's about 50/50 motorway / normal roads for the last 20K. Problem sounds more like a 4 wheel allignment problem to me than tracking. 4WD is great but if the tyres are all pointing in slightly different directions you'll eat tyres.....

For me it's a trip to a dealer or a 4wd company that can align properly... Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!

Could also be caused by the Track rod end issue for which there is apparently a bulletin. Knocking noise and adverse tyre wear.

I'm about to go down this route with my local Dealer and if not then I'm off to Charles Hurst LR to get it sorted. TDV6 - gone

Got 18k out of 20" with Continentals.......still about 3k from illegal, but in this weather need all the help tyres can give. .

There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation.


TDV8 HSE MY10 with pretty much everything including a vase of daffs on the back shelf, tropical fish collection in the centre console, hamsters in the spare tyre and finally sheep on the passenger seats.....for weight distribution, what else??

GET DOWN TO UR DEALER AND GET A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT DONE BEFORE THE TYRES GET TO LOW.
