Grrr..

Was replacing one of my rear wheels today - did a final round of 'tightening up' and one of the wheel nuts sheared !

It has left the domed section very well in place, but the hex section has sheared off.

Any bright ideas on just how involved this will be to resolve? I presume that the stud will need to be drilled though to release the wheel, then (I hope) a new threaded stud can be fitted on to the hub section?

I guess I was just a bit to used to Defender wheel nuts and used too much oomph, maybe need a torque wrench instead of the long-handled beastie in the standard toolkit

I' ve cut damaged / broken nuts out without damaging stud with starrett cutter remove drill from holder to centre wrap masking tape around for snug fit in wheel and drill slowly. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that sounds like it might work. I feel that this is either going to be a very easy fix if done in a cunning 'bush mechanic' way, or the LR franchised dealer will find a reason that I will need to replace half the transmission!

I agree with Muddywheels - if you were using the Sport's wheel brace you should not be able to shear the stud; get back to the dealer and get the set changed.

All sorted and free of charge too ! Have put a torque wrench in the car to prevent recurrence and given up eating spinach. Rod
