Hello,

I have blanked off my EGR's with a x8r kit and have the BAS deactivation patch for the EGR's uploaded.

In respect of mapping the engine ECU, i appreciate it will put extra strain on various engine components, nothing I don't doubt they wont be able to cope with, but in respect of my Sport the turbo's were refurbished at 60,000 miles approx and have had no issues in my ownership from 90,500 miles onwards, other than a few codes - Turbo A performance - resistance issues, which I put down to sticky VNT turbo on the drivers bank A side.

I've recently run Revive turbo cleaner through both turbo's and found the car to be more responsive now at part throttle, which I hope might of freed up the mechanism somewhat, whereby I might see less of the actuator electrical resistance issues because of the mechanism being supposedly cleaner??

I was thinking about mapping the car, but read as I guess all who have researched the process that the ZF 6HP26 box is rated to 600nm, the engine produces 640nm, and a new map will take the engine to 740nm approx. How is this safe for the gearbox? Id feel more confident once I have had the gearbox's oil/filter change and flushed.

What's everyone's take on it all?

I guess people might think it'll be ok, full torque wont be seen other than booting it or whatever.

I just want to keep the car going as long as I can, running cleaner with the mods I've carried out so far.

Can someone shed any light on the pro's and con's of mapping, if they were in my situation and had the same mileage etc..

The car is a 2010 3.6 TDV8 autobiography with 97,500 miles currently, which does need a gearbox oil change ideally, whereby I feel the box would run smoother and could benefit from the gearbox update also to iron out notchy changes etc.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm happy to leave well alone or map, as I know Pete will offer a slight discount as I have already purchased the EGR patch off him already.

I recently had the EGR's blanked with a software update and BAS engine remap on my 2008 TDV8. I also had the gearbox flushed.

It drives like a new car.

I know it's only the instrument reading, but I now get 32mpg (up from 24mpg) and driving is smooth as butter. L320 Range Rover Sport 2008

Thanks for the reply.....

What mileage has yours done, I want to get the gearbox flushed/filter changed etc, might get that done before I was to map it.

Do you have any concerns that's the engine is now producing 140nm more than the gearbox was designed for, II assume its over engineered anyway.

I do on average 21.8mpg if I'm lucky on my run to work, a mix of A roads, stopping in starting in residential areas 10 miles.

Mines done 81,000 miles, which for an 08 is pretty low.
24mpg was purely motorway driving with the cruise control on. Typically I used to get 18 if I was lucky.
I did a 2 hour motorway drive last week and managed to get 30-32mpg which was good for me.

Everything drives and feels better. No suicide pause, better gear changes and smoother driving.

I don't know enough about the pros and cons about increasing the torque and the strains on the gearbox. All I know is the car drives better. I do very few miles, and never towe. It can't be worse for the gearbox than towing a caravan. L320 Range Rover Sport 2008

I had my 5.0L s/c remapped, although it has the 6HP28 transmission which is rated slightly higher at 650nm, it throws out 750nm of torque well 749nm to be exact and that reading was actually taken on a dyno, not some "a pie in the sky" figure, that was some 8/9 years ago and have never had any issues with the transmission yet.

The 6HP TCM (which can be mapped, but that's a different story) has built-in torque limiters for each gear and will send a torque reduction request to the engine ECU if the input torque is sustainedly above the software limit.

Even with the engine mapped you rarely stay on full throttle for so long it triggers a limiter. However, since you have more torque at any throttle position than you had before remap, the car drives much better while still staying below the official torque capacity.

As far as I know, while ZF states officially the max input torque is indeed 600 Nm, JLR had to do something with their 640 Nm engine mated to this transmission, therefore the limits in the TCU software are set accordingly. FWIW the transmission is slightly overengineered and copes with >800 Nm input torque (slightly less for the 4WD version) with a TCU remap which adjusts the torque limiters and torque converter/lockup strategy for less stress during shifting - which by some bizarre logic of an auto tranny construction principles has a side effect of shorter shift times.

There is an interesting read regarding the 6HP and the TCU software capabilities in the xHP reflash description. While this product is aimed at BMW owners (the xHP flash will never work in a JLR product), there is a lot to learn from it and 6HP/8HP reflashes for Range Rovers more or less follow the ideas laid out in the xHP. Regards etc.,
