Insurance cancelled on me!

Not sure what to do but feel im between a rock and hard place with this one.

Im insured with Churchill and I have a MY18 5Ltr Autobiography which as you know i have had quite a few off over the years, I am mid forties with 15yrs no claims.

Churchill called me last night to say they are no longer insuring Land rovers in my area and that my 14 day notice has commenced and my refund will be sent back within this timeframe. I have just moved down south to bedfordshire from living in Scotland for the last 4 years.

my insurance was renewed late summer around the £500 when living in Scotland and the premium for this MK postcode jumped to £1400!!! I paid it!

I have run comparison website quotes which all start from £5000 upwards,

NFU said wont quote for new business on Land rovers in this area,

A-Plan offered a reasonable £6000!!!!!

Land Rover car insurance declined to quote!

So this leaves me with an issue whereby i just wont insure a car at £5k and my current insurance runs out in 14 days so its quickly sinking in i may have to sell it, it seems like its the worst time to be selling a car right now and it looks like this car in particular is getting hit with heavy value loss.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom or is there a work around I havent thought of?

Have you tried Hastings Direct? I have a 5 litre MY12 L320 (admittedly older/ less valuable) and live 10 minutes from MK. Last month Hastings Direct were very competitive at £473 (via Money Supermarket) with only £195 excess. Might be worth a try. There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

How does it work out if you just get quotes for third party?

Thanks for the recommendation I have just tried money supermarket and Hastings comes in at a cool £6468!!!

Does anyone here have a good insurance contact who's experienced & understands what makes insurance policies jump by £££££? Perhaps it's me inputting info wrong I'm just not sure but haven't had an issue for the last 20years? MY18 SCV8 Satin flux silver

The issue is the car not you… L494’s are incredibly easily compromised and in the top five cars stolen at present. As a result the chances of your insurer having to pay out are incredibly high.. hence the learned response from the claims handlers is stop insuring them!

This is probably why London dealers are offering new cars from stock with a £10.000 price reduction and a 8% finance deal..

You may find it easier and far more financially viable to sell it in a low crime area like Cornwall or the Scottish Highlands..

Welcome to the JLR nightmare…

All the cheap quotes listed above are for earlier cars, some with that old nuisance thing we call an ignition key which fits in a secure lock on the steering column.. this is the price we pay for keyless entry and start.. it also means anyone can …

Exactly as JC says above. There have been threads for a few months now over the LR sister forums. The newer models are getting hammered putting the owner in a corner, pay up or move on. It's like being in our 20's again, can afford the GTI but not the insurance. Its a choice you have to make, oh and then again next year............

Edit - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic68311.html
and look at the link within that thread Thumbs Up 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Thank you for all the replies and your all absolutely correct regarding it being the car not me, I decided last night to run quotes based on my old address in the Highlands and indeed the premium dropped back down to reasonable levels.

I guess I better get on selling it just a shame as the value loss is breathtaking right now, never expected to be leaving the brand despite their issues but this issue is a big problem for me.

It certainly does feel like being 20 again where you can afford that GTS but can't afford the insurance....welll said! MY18 SCV8 Satin flux silver

You need a broker you can talk to ....the guy next door does not have theft insurance as his car has the button start and can be hacked.

I think the bigger concern for us owners is the value of our car is free falling.. as stated earlier dealers in London are offering a £10k reduction and lower interest rates.. if you then look at the prices of their second hand approved vehicles they are now considered reasonable! But I dread to think what part Ex prices are currently being offered..
my car has devalued by at least £25k looking at these prices..

My only saving grace was that I did mine on a pcp with an agreed value at the end of the term.. so I’ll just be handing mine back and buying a BMW or Audi…… certainly not good for those who bought on straight HP or even worse cash…

I’m in MK post code too, but North West part of MK.
Also 5 litre sc AB 2010 facelift but probably now only worth 5/6 k so much less than your 18 reg, although has keyless.
Last year Admiral wanted £488, moved to Tesco for £350 who this year want £450 so may shop around.
Named drivers ,wife and I, vol xs £500, comp xs£400 but mileage only 5000 as have access to other cars.
Expected increase this year due to inflation( daughter’s premium for her car has increased by 6%)
but also because wife and I are now both over 80.
Think FC is correct, it’s the thefts of 494s and the values and ‘hotspot post codes’. Neutral
