Coolent level low light on

Hi everyone this is my first post.
I had the low coolent light come on so pulled over and called the AA they found the someone has not fitted the top hose correctly it should just clip in so he did the repair for me but dud not have any antifreeze only water to top up the system.
All fine now no leaks from the clip on hose and water in the tank up ti max but the low coolent level light stays on it says press OK to clear but still keeps coming on do I need a new sensor or is it because its low on antifreeze.
Barry.

Hi , no you will need to drive the car for abit and this will clear the stored code.
Obviously long as you have enough coolant/water in.

Ah okay!
I had the same issue, coolant hose left loose, lost coolant , put coolant in and it cleared the code.

Prob need a OBD scanner to clear the code as its stored it or disconnect battery for 10 mins.

Hi if there are no leaks now and the coolant level looks fine the level float in the expansion tank is saturated and sinks to the bottom. You need to change expansion tank. Thumbs Up

I have disconnected the battery for 30 mins and on reconnecting the warning light is still on I have two cheap plug in hand held machines and both say no codes to clear.

Sticking float switch in expansion tank, quite common!!
Pop a new expansion tank on and you will be good to go.

Regards

Hi I have the tank with the small push in sensor.
Up date I have just had a genuine sensor fitted and still have the same warning on low coolent level it's been put on a expensive fault reader and it can't find any faults at all yet the warning is still on and coolent level is at normal.

Did they replace the sensor or the whole float unit? If the float sticks down, the sensor can't give any reading other than low. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

There is deffo a float after time it becomes saturated and sinks to bottom of tank causing the alert.Replace the tank problem solved.

Float is part of the tank.
The whole tank has to be changed

Well it must be stuck on the bottom but there is deffo a float that moves up and down with the level as said they become saturated and sink to bottom. The tank itself cones with a sensor when you buy new one .The tank itself is easy to replace.
