No Meridian 3D sound system EVEN on AB?

Firstly, Hi all, first post here!

I took the plunge and placed an order for a new RRS AB around a week after the official order book opened this year in May. Like everyone else I expected a long wait so I am not particularly worried about that alone, however, having read a post on here about the removal of the 3D Meridian system I thought I would check this with my dealer.

They have now confirmed that this is indeed the case with all orders. All AB's will be downgraded to the 'base' spec stereo. They have offered a £500 goodwill gesture (presumably this to be knocked off the £1200 price increase I had the other month!)

This is, so I'm told, great news! Neutral As I will now be getting my RRS sooner due to less 'hard to source' chips in the base stereo! how soon is unclear, they don't know... but are quite confident it will be next year at some point!! Rolling with laughter

I do value a good stereo and was actually wanting to upgrade the 3d Meridian to the top version (sorry can't remember the name).

I think I am about ready to call it a day. is it just me, but to pay nearly £120k for a car with a base stereo to be delivered god knows when, with who knows what further price increase to be added in the meantime is starting to wear a little thin. Made worse by the fact it could well arrive in the middle of a recession just about when values start dropping?

Seeing physical delivery miles RRS's on Autotrader at circa £25k over list, some with the meridian stereo is only serving to further wind me up!

I'm now looking at 1 - 2year old L405's and starting to understand why these are still fetching so much money.

Surely others on here in the same boat?? Should I stop whinging and wait and!? or is this valid?

This is not good - I just finalised my build for a Taycan and have to accept I cannot select the BOSE option anymore due to the same supply chain challenge - waiting 12 months for a build slot and then get told this - work lease car but still very frustrating.

I just checked my online order for my RRS P440 PHEV AB - noticed it no longer shows Meridian 3D - just the standard...lets see what the situation is closer to build confirmation.

I had a D350 First Edition for 24 hours earlier this week - if it had the Meridian 3D, it sounded pretty woeful. My current MY16 Meridian sounds a lot better.

Thanks Prashan, at least it's not just landrover, and these are factors out of Landrover's control, but it just doesn't feel like a fair deal for the customer. From memory the 3D meridian system was a £1500 upgrade for the non AB models, so to offer a £500 goodwill gesture feels like an insult, particularly after they have added an extra £1200 surcharge only weeks before!

as you say let's see, but I think I will probably be cancelling my order.

I do like my music, not a full blown audiophile but an appreciator of fine music and fine systems. But….

My outgoing D5 had the 825w Meridian Surround system in which was alright, took a while to set up and get it right, the new p440e has the standard 400w system in and it’s actually really good (I’d probably say better at sensible volumes), unless you are wanting silly volume (which in such a small place can distort the quality and our ears will struggle with the fine detail) I think it is more than adequate. The car is eerily quiet so unlike the D5 where volume was needed to drown out the rattles and tractor like v6 diesel, I found the levels more than adequate.

This is not just a JLR/Meridian issue. My brother has had an electric bmw thingy on order for over 12 months and still has not got a confirmed date, has also order the equivalent Merc, Audi and now Porsche all with now confirmed dates. He will cancel the 3 once he gets one confirmed.

I was told AB would still come with the correct sound system but it wasn't possible to upgrade, no mention of any reduction in price either.

I love the Meridian in my wife's current MY16....I took it to a car audio specialist (Audiofile in-car, Bishops Stortford) - they dynomatted the front doors and removed the "felt2 type material between the speakers and the door cards - transformed the sound and removed the door rattles at high volume.

Having the 3D Meridian now, I could not move to a standard system. In-car, switching from 3D to 2D is like having your ears cut off Shocked and I’d never get over knowing that, I’d rather wait. Thankfully this is not being tested since I have no reason to switch my current car which is epic, despite me drooling over the latest model. Perhaps this means, despite high used prices, maybe another couple of years in an L405 is not such a bad idea for discerning Cool buyers. If it’s not right, it’s not right. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

By 3D I mean Meridian Signature 1700 or whatever it is. That is what I have. I have just realised 3D might be offered on other systems. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Apparently (according to my dealer anyway), No new AB's will come with the correct stereo, i.e the 3d Meridian 825w, instead they will all have the base meridian 400w.
I've asked if I can accept a longer lead time but stick with the better (i.e correct) stereo, but apparently there is no option at all to order the car with the 3d Meridian system.

Do you receive a credit for the difference in cost between standard stereo and upgraded Meridien (that isn't available)? 2020 SVR / R.I.P. 2019 SVR / 2016 D4 Landmark / 2005 D3 HSE

I have a number of L405 AB's on my watch list! All around 10 - 15k miles and circa £75k, al lot of money still.. but relatively speaking still appear good value at £45k less than the new RRS AB without the correct spec!

Out of interest how is the 400e engine? that's the 2 litre one isn't it? quite fancy one of those. or conversely just the 4.4tdv8

Nope! They have offered a £500 'goodwill gesture'! not long before removing the option they applied a £1200 surcharge!

from memory the 3D meridian option on the SE model was £1500?

I would ask for this in writing. Dealer called me when I raised this tonsay that they had received a bulletin stating that all FE and AB models were being downgraded to standard Meridian although they have introductory some kind of new sub woofer. It really doesnt sit well with me coming from the 800W in my current AB. FE scheduled to arrive mid Dec and they want me to register before the end of the year if possible. On a 100k plus car to have a standard set up is niggling at me. First world problems I know but £500 off is not reasonable.

Coming from a 850w all singing meridian system in the D5, I haven’t noticed a real difference. I never liked the 3D whatever trickery anyway.
