Yes, after 4 years with my TDV8 the front and rear suspension no longer knocks. After a near silent 210 mile drive through the Highlands today, it drove better than the day it left the factory.

To get to this I replaced the front lower wishbones with genuine parts, after my Indie at the time noticed they were cheap pattern parts. Then I had the front ARB genuine LR bushes replaced with SuperPro Polly bushes, and then the rear lower arms replaced when the car failed its MOT last week on the bushes being shot.

Silence

Except the occasional ‘thump thump’ when I start to drive away, then once driving it disappears! It initially feels like the same as a flat spot on a slick tyre feels. Once cruising there is no noise. When I sop and pull away it starts again, BUT - Not always

CV joint? Front diff?

Front hubs replaced 12 months ago.

How do know if the knocking at the front has been sorted?

You can hear the knocking at the rear better

Hmm. Might need a bit more detail of the thump. But for starters, you say it disappears when cruising. Does it happen if you accelerate from the cruise? Or is it only when pulling away? Where is the thump apparently from? Robin

Rear prop shaft?
If you take off the heat shield that covers the rear prop you can inspect the rubber insert in the centre mounting, they do split with age. Give it a wriggle and feel for splits and if its completely detached from the carrier it will be obvious. The CV joints also wear and go stiff with time.

I am doing a service on it this week, so will have a look at this. I had, as my post suggested, thought about the CV joint, but as its not ‘constant’ I feel its not them  Previously owned 1999 Disco 2 TD5

I had similar thump from NSF.

Turned out to be the inner CV joint failed totally, was basically being held together by the CV boot

Had a new front drive shaft and the NSF wheel bearing done nice and quiet now  2006 RRS HSE 2.7 TDV6 (The Baby one as I keep being told)
1999 Discovery 4.0 V8 (Gone but not forgotten)
1997 Range Rover 3.5 V8 (Long gone now)
1966 Series II SWB with RR 3.5 V8 (Never finished, now sold)

UPDATE - late again, sorry

So in the end it was a front CV joint - all grease lost and rusted solid, AND it was also the rear centre bearing in the propshaft. So I replaced both front drive shafts and the whole propshaft from parts from AF Motors.  Previously owned 1999 Disco 2 TD5

Excellent and thanks for the update. Maybe some day somebody may have the same symptoms. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
