JLR Dashcam

JLR have just launched front and rear dashcam, which I’m going to get fitted next week. Have been looking around and had an offer of around £600 to have a blackvue units fitted, however, am always concerned about warranty with a third party doing work on the electrical system of the car (only 6 months old). I’ve therefore booked in to have the JLR version fitted next week, will share photos once done - apparently can be retrofitted to the Sport, although only seen in the accessories brochure for the new Discovery and Defender. Will let you know how I get on, what the picture quality is like and whether I would recommend, my wife has also ordered a new Disco sport phev, and we’ve specced the dashcam on it too, subject to how I get on!

What is the price through LR,I’m sure it will probably be a reputable company like Thinkware/Blackvue supplying them & then LR charging 3x the cost.In this day & age dashcams should come standard in car as it wouldn’t cost much more if fitted in production. Andy.

The front and rear dashcams are really easy to fit and shouldn't affect the warranty on your vehicle as they are removable and not deemed a permanent fixture, the car has external 12v sources and the "hardwire" can be installed into the applicable fuse location.

Lamborghini confirmed my warranty would not be affected by the installation of a dashcam and they actually accommodated the installer at the dealership to carry out the work before i collected the car.

In my opinion it falls into the same category as having trackers installed etc, none of which have any impact on warranty. RRS SVR Estoril Blue, Huracan Performante Spyder Rosso Mars, Tesla Model X Black

Hi,

If you have access to Topix, the fitting instructions for the dashcam covers multiple models.

The kit is two cameras and the loom to tap power off the overhead console and route it to the rear one as well.

Fitted price in the brochure is £693. Link to the RRS Accessory brochure is below.

https://accessories.landrover.com/gb/en/ra...tiary-tabs

We have a New Defender 90 due next week and we’ve managed to get a slightly better price as part of an accessory package of items.

Hi,

Prices in the accessory brochure usually include fitting.

£693 is “around” the price we’ve been given for fitting a set into our new D90 D250 HSE next week.

Try asking your dealer for a price😀👍

Similar price to what I’ve been quoted fitted - didn’t feel too bad when I compared to a local fitter for something similar for front and rear, only slight worry is the new puppy chewing the rear camera whilst travelling, so if removable, I might need to a few weeks until she is out of this phase. Will post pics once I have them fitted on Thursday along with the final price.

Be interesting to see where they fit it to the back window through the solid tailgate. I’ve watched the powerfuluk defender install on YouTube.

You’ll have to upload photos of the finished install. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

This is JLR we are talking about - they're not known for being great at customer service. Whistle Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have Halfords-sourced NextBase camera on the front screen tucked up behind the mirror so it doesn't distract/block the view. Cable along the top of the screen in the headlining, down the A-pillar and to the cigar lighter socket. Took 5 minutes to install. If I could be bothered, I'd buy a cable and run it to the fuse board like I did in my TDV8 (annoyingly forgot to remove the wire when I sold the car!).

So yes, the LR price seems a bit high for what should be no more than a couple of hundred quid including the cameras. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

If you read this, it shows where they are fitted on the various models.

I think the most interesting thing here is the guide to installing the rear camera. Looks like if you remove the spoiler you can get access to inside the headlining and also be able to route through the rubber grommet and into the tailgate. Don’t suppose anyone has done this?

Should save in having lots of loose floppy cable hanging around.
