L494 Seat strip down and heated seat diagnoses

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to this forum, a long time Range Rover owner spanning P38, L322 and now a 2014 L494.

The drivers side heated seat stopped working and it coincided with the battery needing replacing so I thought it would be rectified when I had it replaced but alas, no.

Apparently there's little to no information to be obtained from fault codes so I'm presuming that the only way to get a proper diagnosis is to strip the seat down and check the circuit.

A coupe of questions (I did a search first to no avail):

1. How easy is it to strip the seat down? I have the WSM but I'd like to hear from someone who's do it themselves
2. Are there any other ways of diagnosing the fault before I buy the heated pads and strip the seat only to potentially discover they're not faulty :/

I contacted a local garage who quoted £600 to fix it which sounds a bit extreme unless I'm missing something

Thanks in advance
Simon

Chances are it’s the temp sensor or an element.

If you have an iid you could read the temperate to see if it’s correct / valid

Hi Andy,

I don't have an IID unfortunately. The passenger and rear seats are all find so I've ruled out fuses and sensors but perhaps I shouldn't have been so quick to come to that conclusion?

each seat has its own temperature sensor to regulate the heat

I see, so you'd expect a fault code to be present then? I did ask the garage if they could check the codes and they advised there wouldn't be one for the seats.

I'll try a different garage!

It maybe worth finding out if the sensor is built into the heating pad.

In which case your back to changing one item

Found a new garage, quoted less than £200 for parts and labour inc vat and they'll test it first. Am happy with that.
