19 years ago today, where were you?

Rather like my parents remembering where they were when JFK was shot, I clearly remember where I was when I heard the twin towers were attacked.

I had just finished a sales call at Rolls-Royce aero engine plant in Derby, heard the news on the radio in their car park.
Will never forget. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

I was on my way to Frankfurt, called in to the Wally Stop in Belgium just before the Dutch border, saw the TV and thought I was watching a film on the TVs, however the silence and mood in the room pointed to reality.

When parked up at the Frankfurt Messe later that evening, myself and others just looked up at what was/is the European Finance building and thought of those who had jumped from far higher to escape. Not many slept that well that night.

I was at the Rolls-Royce plant at Ansty when we heard, the day after I flew out to KL to do a trade show, apart from a few exhibitors it was deserted as most of the airlines had shut down. 2018 MY19 HSE Dynamic, Santorini, Ebony/Ivory, Sliding pano, Adaptive cruise, Black wheels. Scotland 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Firenze Red

I had just landed onboard the Beryl Alpha platform to start my 2 week hitch, with no TV access until evening I was hearing stories of what was going on until I turned on the TV and every channel showing the sad days events. It was pretty much all that was on the TV for the next 14 days. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

I was in the CID office in a London nick...watched the whole thing unfold throughout the afternoon on the tv in the squad office...sombre day...
A few years later I was at the scenes of our own major events in July....
So so pointless.....

Had spent the day climbing Mont Blanc.
Turn TV on and just saw a plane disappear into a building and couldn't quite make sense of it. Only after seeing it a second time (with limited French to understand the new's reader) did it sink in. RRS 2012 HSE Lux Alive stage 1 remap. timed heater, General Grabbers.

I was sat at home on the sofa. I had popped home at lunchtime and turned on the news to find the story unfolding following the first aircraft impact. Phoned the office to say I'd be a bit late and explained what was going on. Saw the second one live. Phoned the office to say I wasn't coming back in. Just spent the afternoon watching it all unfold.

We had a trip to Vermont booked later in the month. The flight over was full. The flight home 2 weeks later was less than half full. The US was a strange place to visit only a couple of weeks after the attack. Lots of people said we were brave to fly and thanked us for going over there and supporting them. Of course, the attack and the aftermath was all that was on US TV. The news channels had nothing else on them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Sat in the crew room at work watching it unfold, as everybody was silent and crammed in front of the TV. From there we knew we’d have a busy future...... 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

We were in the yard at VanMaster Caravans transferring all the contents from our old van to the new.

The secretary was supplying us with coffee and said she had heard it on the radio, I assumed it was a light plane and had done minimal damage to the building, both vans had radios but never thought to switch them on.

It was only once we had set up the new van on site that we put the TV on and saw the terrible scene.

At work in Wapping, London. Cancelled a meeting as everyone seemed shellshocked then spent the rest of the afternoon looking out over the Thames at Canary Wharf (which had been evacuated) half dreading a plane would crash into it.
