alternator killing sockets

so far the upper alternator bolt has destroyed 3 13mm sockets Razz Am attempting this from below and I do have ACE installed. Do I need to remove the ACE pump blocking the way or is using a few thin extensions and maybe a swivel socket will do?

Or shall I just remove the fan and attempt to get an impact in there? The thing is crazy tight and 1/2 inch bits won't fit either, although 1/2 inch bit fits the other two bolts. they were dry as meaning no grease was applied.

any other tips i could attempt? literally the only thing left holding the alternator on, new one which is denso arrives on monday. 270quid from CP4L. Which is a steal imo

Am confused. I've removed both lower bolts, they were a doddle. What's screwing me was upper bolt. Nothings blocking the lower bolts for me Shocked

Also if I plug the battery back in and remove the alternator fuse/relay will that sever the link between the alternator and battery? There were a lot of sparks when the aa man tried to charged the battery for drive home

Oh you got a petrol

The main thick red cable connects to the alternator and starter.

Video shows a ratchet spanner.
Have u tried a 3/8th socket and ratchet

Eg

ah ive been using socket and 3/8. the video was just my last attempt with 13mm rachet spanner because the bolt has broken 3 13mm sockets already

my main issue is its torqued so high i cant get the leverage to break it loose

Longer breaker bar. 1/2ā€ to 3/8 adaptor.

Or just a longer ratchet
I got the snap on version of this

Handy.

But 1/2ā€ breaker bar is king

I've got some impact 13mm that'll hopefully take the strain. I've got a pipe that I use as a breaker bar so we'll see

Smashed it, draper impact socket did the trick. I also think I made it harder for myself by removing the two bottom bolts first because then all the weight was on the top bolt.
