RRS MY16 - Things to look out for

Hello , reposting this message to the right group as just found the section for L494)

I'm getting an RRS, HSE Dynamic 2015 (MY16), with some options like Deployable TowBar, Fixed SunRoof, 360 Camera, Black Pack, in Indus Silver I think - it's had 2 owners, and has done about 32k miles.

I've put a deposit down, but wondering if there's anything else I should look out for before signing the deal and walking (driving away) at the end of this week?

PS - So glad to be back in an RRS. Since my last post, I ended up in a Golf, BMW 3 Series, C Class Estate, Tiguan (was meant to be for Mrs - but I ended up having a job in London so didnt need a car) and now live in a rural area, so it had to be RRS!

Thank you.

Where are you getting it from?

Whatever engine is in it you need a decent warranty, especially so if it’s the 3.0 sdv6. Warranty direct do a good warranty that in general pays out ok, you don’t need to wait until the end of any current one before putting a £25 deposit down on it to ensure you get today’s price. Joined the X5 45e club

Thanks Dave-t. Saxton's - I know about the mixed reviews, but they do seem to offer to my budget, which is important. They've offered 4 years (term of my pcp), RAC Platinum.

It's the 3.0 SDV6 (306)

May be worth a call/e mail to warranty provider just to check they cover the crankshaft. Even the LR approved used doesn’t as it’s a known fault, but LR normally sort it out if covered by that Joined the X5 45e club

Thanks again.

Just checked Warranty Direct, doesn’t explicitly say it covers "crankshaft", but can’t be certain.

I'll have a word with the dealer and see if I can find the policy document, for the RAC one.

If it's the one still listed on their website I like that colour and I think the non-privacy glass suits it with a nice clean look.

One thing I noticed was the "Sport" badge on the boot being silver yet it's listed as a Dynamic. I thought Dynamics always had the "Sport" badge in red and assumed it was a quick way to tell from outside the car? 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......
2005 Cayenne S - handling defied physics and what a sound, so sod the mpg!
1995 Disco TDI- surprisingly reliable, shame about the peeling dash & other trim
Lots of other non 4X4's in between times.........

Thank you - that's what I thought until now, but many have it without the red lettering. I also thought the red callipers we're standard on the dynamics... every day's a school day.

Haven't they been prosecuted recently by Trading Standards for reselling a car known to have problems (can't remember if it was serious faults or clocked). When I was looking round for my RRS they looked OK until I read the reviews. A lot of their ads aren't for the actual car for sale.
I'm sure I had the RAC platinum policy on my car which I negotiated for 12 months and it did pay out for an EPB module. Be aware that it will have a maximum amount and I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near the cost of a new engine, so please check the small print.

I would get the VIN and run a search on TOPIX and also check the online history. Check the indicator for next service due; also small things like warning lights staying on in the dashboard.

I would also test drive and check the car pulls straight and not to a side, etc

Good luck

Thanks for the comments.

I entered the chassis number on the topix page, and it said “this service is not available in your market”

Any ideas?

I checked the LR service history, nothing serious in there - just the regular pollen filters, oil change and renewal engine filter.

Also, any ideas on how i know for sure that it's a Dynamic model? Whistle

On the rotary controller, there should be a dynamic mode - far left aroun 7 o'clock - think from the pics, it had this.

Surprised Topix wasn't showing you the spec MY16, 3.0D HSE Dynamic, Barola Black, TV, Rear Entertainment, Opening Pan Roof, Meridian

That's the one FC, well found. Not at all confidence inspiring and makes you wonder what else they get up to.
