Retrofit Powered Tailgate on 2010

I'm a week into my very first LR and loving it!

The previous owner upgraded the tailgate from original 2010 to a powered 2012 but its not powered. The loom from the tailgate is loose at the top and the dealer said there's no main car loom to connect to on my model.

Does anyone know if this is true and if so - is it possible to get it fully working and powered somehow?

As it’s a 2010 car and the powered tail gate didn’t come into existence until 2012 model year, there is no loom. You would need to create the necessary loom and connections. 2012 5.0 SC AB

What do you think would be the best route?

Maybe somehow splice the 2012 loom into existing?

I’d have to look at the wiring diagram but I suspect the only additional wiring would be the power struts and the redundant wiring being the top part of the 2010 split tail gate. There’s likely more to it that that but I think it would be doable. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I'd like one of those also. I just can't justify spending £500 on it Sad Kev

I find the power lift to be more hassle than it's worth. Half of the time it unlatches and doesn't lift which requires one or more additional button presses.

I miss the split tailgate of the original. A useful feature. The power lift isn't. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I agree, if it was say £300 I would have bought it, but £500 is just that bit too rich

Mine is just the same. If I've not opened the boot for a couple days it doesn't lift first time. A feature I am not bothered about and would not spec on a car. There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

We were on holiday in south of France last year, I totally wrecked my back and I was unable to lift even a leaf. I sent my mates down to my L320 to fetch grape juice. Oh to watch them examining the tailgate for how to get it to auto lift. Suckers. It’s from 2010, I yelled, use your goddam arms like a real man. Thumbs Up

I now have an electric tailgate. It’s fantastic. Rolling Eyes L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Diff'rent strokes for diif'rent folks and all that, can't say I've ever used the split tailgate on any of the cars I've had with it, but I miss the powered tailgate every time my hands are fully occupied holding stuff that needs to be loaded.... a quick sweep of my foot under the bumper and up the tailgate rises would be very handy!

I disabled gesture tailgate on mine not because I struggled to get it to reliably recognise my foot, although it was a pain, but because once I managed to set it off by mistake and it hit me on the bonce! Censored L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I always use the split tailgate. It's really useful because you can open the boot when reversed up against something. Kev

Yes, I used to use my split tailgate all the time. But, as an arthritis sufferer since 30 yo, I did lament the heaviness of the full tailgate, though the soft close helps because you don't have to close it hard. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I had the same problem with mine, Even replaced the struts ( but that wasnt the fix )

My fix was to lube up the seal . Turns out when it was hot it would unlatch but would get stuck to the seal.

Haven't had the problem since !
