Rear Sensor problem/WD40??

2006 Sport. I have removed the rear bumper and exposed the electrically connections to all the back of the sensors. I've been having a problem with the rear sensor/s sometimes continuously staying on when they shouldn't. It looks as though one of the electrical connections has been continuously been exposed to road water. I've taken all the connections off and given the whole area a good clean.......After putting all the connections back in their respective sockets, I'm considering give them a good spray of WD40 .........good idea? or perhaps NOT. Quick response would be appreciated...need to put the bumper back asap. Andrew Kennedy

That’s what I would do, or if you have Vasalene (petroleum jelly) I use that a lot on electrical connections to keep damp out.

While I doubt very much if 12V would track across WD40, I do know it is not a good insulator so I wouldn't use it on electrical connections (I've seen it smoke on 120V lighting connections). I use what's meant for them, spray electrical contact cleaner which is an acid type cleaner and should clean them nicely, preferably if you can rub with a 3M abrasive pad (green dishwash sponge will do) but avoid emery or similar as this removes the contacts coating if there is any left. Then a dielectric grease should prevent future corrosion, but at that low voltage vaseline or other grease would probably be fine. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine
