Brake Pads - HOW MUCH !!!

Well the Sport went in for its 2nd 6 month service, which under the "Corporate Plan" is free except for things like, Wiper blades, Tyres, etc... and inevitably the Brake Pads.

Cue a call about mid morning, our technicians have inspected the brakes and we need to replace both front and rear pads, and of course do a reschim/skim/something the disks, a mere $940 Australian sir.. that is a "mere 380 Pounds.. what the Censored

Told them to hang off until i get it checked

Question(s)

a) .Anyone been charged this in the UK, what is the going rate there
b). Would you expect the Pads to wear after 18K Km's (11.5K Miles) or 11 months ? Admit the wife has a lead right boot when it comes to acceleration and braking, but 11 months does not seem long. Anyone lasted a lot shorter or longer ?

Feel like i am getting stung somewhat Big Cry and what to check the font of all knowledge before parting with the filthy lucre

I had to have mine changed at about 10 months (17k miles) - and the work (time and materials) cost me about £300. So you're not far off... what I would check with them is whether the £380 is just for parts or is inclusive of the labour to fit them? In my experience, dealer parts depts always charge silly prices for oft-replaced parts like brake pads. Here, the LR workshop charges around £100/hr so that would make it about £50 per pad, which is ridiculous. Ridiculous, but quite normal unfortunately... Big Cry

Mileage does seem a bit low for a change of pads but it depends on your style of driving. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yep, I was surprised mine wore out so quickly - but I suppose I did hoon it a bit, a 2.5t of metal is a lot to stop.

you have not seen the wifes style of stop/go stop/go Wink but to be honest i have a tendency to let the vehicle slow down naturally and i am quite usually light on the brakes. What does not help is it does do a lot around town, rather than open road, which no doubt takes it's toll Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I would agree with S it does sound about right for a dealer, try shopping around non dealers for a better price, they told me mine needed replacing at my last service reckoning they had a couple of thousand miles left on them, i left it and will wait until the light comes on the dash, i did have a D3 the other day as a loaner and the brakes were a lot sharper than the Sport so i know they need doing soon Thumbs Up some of my Previous cars

just so long as it does not invalidate any warranties, need to get the fine print reader out Thumbs Up not sure if Australia has signed up to the "does not have to be a franchised dealer" regs like the UK Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
