Smoke under bonnet when engine off

Just wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on an issue I’m having with my 3.6TDV8, please.

When I stop the engine after a spirited drive, there is smoke coming from the passenger side of the engine.

Only seems to happen after the engine is loaded up, for example after a long hill climb.

I don’t think it’s exhaust, as the engine is off and the smoke is still there.

Also, I’m pretty sure it’s not the fuel burning heater as it’s summer down here 😀

Any thoughts and pointers appreciated

Cheers Less is more, more or less

Not sure if this is of any help, and you've probably covered it already, but if smoke is still there after the engine is off, it would suggest a fluid leak hitting somewhere hot. I'd be looking for obvious signs of a leak. What colour is the smoke? Robin

Colour is difficult to say. Maybe a beigey sorta colour. Definitely not black, maybe similar to thin wood smoke.

Seems to be coming from the back of the engine (towards the fire wall)

I have a movie, but can’t seem to figure out how to upload it. Less is more, more or less

If its from the back of the engine the exhaust crossover pipe is there, have a search for issues in that area.

TDV8 doesn't have a cross over pipe.

Could be the PCC valve. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

PCC?

Do you mean crankcase ventilation?

Would that still show smoke after engine is off? Less is more, more or less

Sorry, should have been PCV so yes the crankcase ventilation.

I wonder if a small leak could show as smoke. The PCV has a pipe that runs from the oil separator to the RHD driver's side turbo inlet pipe.

Alternatively, I wonder if it's an EGR valve that leaking and the smoke is coming up at the back of the acoustic cover.

Or the inlet manifold is cracked. The manifold forms the camshaft cover too so a crack or whatever might be allowing some hot oily gas to escape from the camshaft cover side of the manifold.

Behind the engine there are also the breather pipes for the gearbox and transfer box. These come up behind the PCV location (in the centre of the V at the rear). Could this smoke be one of these breathers if the gear or transfer boxes had got very warm after a good thrash?

Could be one of a number of things really and needs to put on a ramp and given a good look over. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Dangermouse, couldn't see that it was a v8 as not in your profile that I could see.
