New Windscreen!!!

So yesterday, my RRS windscreen took the brunt of a large rock at c50pmh. Censored

To be fair, minimal damage for such a loud noise, but a new windscreen is required.

Has anybody changed a windscreen recently? Is there a definitive answer on whether I will also need the black plastic a pillars replaced, or the internal a pillars for that matter?

I have heard horror stories about having the clips break and want to ensure that the fitter has everything they "should have" in advance! Especially as the car is only 4 months old! Big Cry

Thanks guys!! Now

I would suggest getting your dealership to do it, even if they farm it out. You should then get an LR branded screen with the right areas for cameras etc and if you have HUD, the correct coating plus you get a 12 months warranty for poor workmanship. They will also hopefully order the right screen for your VIN............. this doesn’t always happen if you go to the other replacement screen companies. Do not be fobbed off by your insurance either who may try to get a cheaper screen fitted to save them money.......... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Mine also needed to be replaced at 4 months old. The new screen, LR branded, was fitted by Kwik Fit with no problem at all. The technician who has bee specifically trained in fitting 'smart' screens knew exactly what needed to be done and was particularly careful about calibration. All went very well. I asked him about the branded screen, he said some were, some were not and he believed there was no difference and come from the same supplier.

I should have said Autoglass and not Kwik Fit. Tim

Thanks everyone... OEM screen being fitted on Friday by Autoglass. Apparently they have all the clips and additional bits already on order.

So hopefully, it will be a relatively painless process! Now

Autoglass is fine, although I would not use the mobile ones. Fitting a screen in the pouring rain even though your under a gazebo type canopy to me is a recipe for disaster. Go to one of their units
A few years ago I had a week old S class Merc which was also a new model & suffered a cracked screen. No screens in the UK, but A/glass overnighted (is that a word) one from Germany & bearing in mind it was one that had all manner of electronics on it, fitted it perfectly. They sometimes get a bad press but considering how many screens they fit the bad one are miniscule.
Bet the main dealers farm them out to Autoglass.

In the factory they can fit a RRS windscreen in under 60 seconds using robots. These robots have some very fancy calibration mechanisms to ensure the screen is fitted perfectly. You'll never get that from a human or two doing a retro fit. So be very demanding who does it and how they do it, i.e. make sure the humans are trained, relaxed.... and sober!

I think Pilkington is the major manufacturer of automotive glass in the UK, and certainly Pilkington Redditch are OEM for RRS. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I have the same to my RRS 2015. A 10 inch long crack in drivers side.

My insurance uses National Windscreens and told me it would be a aftermarket screen. I called LR who of course told me it would not be covered under warranty for heated element, auto wipers etc.

What should I do? Can they refuse to cover OEM parts to save them costs? 2015 RRS AB SDV6, Fuji White, Ivory

so the replacement is not Pilkington? If the specification and features are the same, will it matter much? Or will you have less features by going with their solution? L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Its not fitted yet, I am doing my research into the best way to approach this.

I don't want to invalidate my warranty (which LR told me anything other than OEM part will).

I feel this would be a case of using National Windscreens would make your life easy, but you should still be able to claim for an OEM windscreen fitted by an alternative supplier, but the claims process will be more laborious. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Hmmmm don’t believe the hype.... my Evoque is pouring water in through the windscreen.... the screen was a genuine screen and has never been changed since fitted at the factory by robots...

Speaking to a local windscreen chap he says he has done loads of JLR products where the screen seal has failed... he says it’s always on the top leading edge and getting the screen out is always a bastard because the robots put too much sealant down the sides...

It appears that this is exactly the case mine has... Shocked

I have just had my L320 done with a none JLR screen,

According to the Auto glass Fitters;
The rule is generally if your car is less that 3-4 years old then they
(The insurance Company) will pay for the JLR screen at about
£1,200 - £1,500

For the lower mortals that have older motors we have a choice,
have the standard screen for just the Excess on your policy,
or insist on the JLR product and pay the difference in most cases.

The difference is between £500 - £750

So I am happy with my none JLR product, it does everything it should,
and mine is an AB so it has plenty on it..

The choice is yours.. ===========================================
