Front Parking Sensors

Morning Al
Picked up a new Sport HSE a couple of months back and I am delighted with it. Far superior to the previous model.

However the front park sensors only operate if you engage reverse first or press the button. This to me is a little stupid! and LR appear to agree but say the only way to change this is if I visit dealer. They will then change the software as its not possible for user to do..... while I wait.

Have experienced Marshalls Cambridge "while you wait" service before so am a little reluctant to do this.

Does anyone know of a way to change this yourself before I trundle off to dealer.

Thanks in Advance.

john.

This is normal with every car I've had with front sensors.

As Brit_Plumber says, having them on permanently will drive you insane. Kev

My previous daily (2016 Skoda Superb) used to turn on the front sensors if you were under a certain speed and they sensed something (in other words, they were on all the time really, it just switched on the display & audio).. used to drive me bonkers Laughing 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

What year is yours? You can fit an earlier control unit to prefacelift cars.
Fronts are then enabled below 10 mph.

Get a control unit off eBay. But need to find the correct part number.

What happens in nose to tail traffic? Would you need to leave a big gap to stop them going off? 2012 5.0 SC AB

nope, you don't need to leave a big gap.

cyclists and busses going the other way can trigger them though.

But it's nice just to drive straight into parking spaces without thinking "Are my park sensors on?" DOH! too late

As Andy says - same experience in the Skoda .. no idea how it could tell the difference between "car in front" and "bollard!" - unless it also used the forward facing radar (adaptive cruise) and/or forward facing camera (lane assist/road sign recognition)?

But yeah, in stop-start traffic, lorries in the next lane would often make it start beeping (the Skoda also had side facing sensors for the self-parking feature), and then it wouldn't shut up until I was doing >~8mph or so, or I hit the button.

I was always torn between turning "Auto parking sensors" off (which was just a user switchable menu option on that car) and not, as on occasion it would remind me of a low bollard/high kerb and the car was on PCP ... Laughing 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

RRS owners don’t want to have to press buttons.
