Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

So quick update collected the car last night and delighted with it. I’ve managed to haggle an additional 6 months warranty on the car so it’s covered for 12 months RAC Platinum warranty.
Only found 2 niggles so far. The volume down button doesn’t work on the steering wheel and going over rough ground the suspension creaks a bit, I’m thinking of attacking all bushes etc with some WD40 at the weekend, unless someone can advise on probable cause and cure ?
If the volume down button gets to annoy me I might look at replacing that module with a used one from the bay, should be pretty straight forward to change ?
MPG seems decent too, 25 mile drive last night on the motorway @60-70 and av mpg showed 39mpg, granted these onboard computers are far from accurate but I’m going with it.
The DAB seems to have some difficulty in getting stations for some reason but haven’t had time to fully play with that yet.
Was pleasantly surprised when it got dark to find the door panels light up, nice touch.
Played with the air suspension which raises and lowers without issue. The car is black and the paint was quite swirled which I commented on when viewing, when I collected the car had been machine polished and the improvement was phenomenal, a few chips and scratched had also been attended to and you’d never know. Ove the next few days / weeeknd as I spend more time in and exploring he car I will update on findings positive and negative.

WD40

Congrats. on your new car..

Don't use WD40 on the suspension bushes... it's not recommended on rubber. 2011 MY D4 HSE

39mpg.... You won't see that in real life unless you drive everywhere at 60mph only. 20 something more likely.

Congrats.

As Bardley has said, wd40 eats rubber and is only a temporary fix. You can get a grease for rubber with various brand names but it is generally red for example “Red Rubber” and is designed for rubber seals etc. It’s water resistant but not water proof and is generally only a temporary fix again. In the long run, certain bushes will need replacing and the roll bar cleaning in the contact area. It could be worth getting the grease, and rubbing into one bush at a time until the noise disappears and you find the offending bushes (could be role bar).

With regards to the switch pack, you will need to replace with the same part number or if you end up with a superseded part, both need to be replaced (that’s a Land Rover recommendation in the WS manual not from my experience).

DAB isn’t brill in my car, open road is fine but as soon as I get a whiff of a building or large tree, it goes off. I think that’s just the way they are. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Likewise on the DAB. Likewise on the suspension creaks on my car Laughing I'm not sure you'd get red rubber grease in there without dismantling them though, at which point you might as well change them.. silicone spray might shut them up for a bit, though.

Incidentally, red rubber grease is annoyingly hard to find in motor factors/Halfords .. as in impossible! I gave up and bought mine on eBay .. the Granville stuff will do, or if you're feeling fancy the Fuchs Renolit. I steer clear of the re-tinned Castrol stuff as who knows what that really is! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

Thanks gents - DAB sounds a bit hit and miss by the sounds of things and the squeaks common. I think I will try the silicon spray for the short term. The annoying thing is it was fairly quiet on collection and first few short drives. Only seems to have gotten worse after playing with the raising and lowering of the suspension.
Next up is that Ive discovered the SatNav maps are as old as the hills and they run from a hard drive ? is there a cheap upgrade and how is this performed ?

Heh, my suspension was the same - fine on the test drives, fine on the drive home from the dealer .. but gradually getting squeakier. Ho hum! Smile 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

Whenever I'm under the car or have the wheels off, I always give the bushes a quick blast with some silicone lubricant spray. As others have said, avoid WD-40. It may solve the squeak immediately, but it will cause the bushes to break down over time due to the solvent content.

Personally, I'd steer away from using grease on any bushes too. Dust and muck will stick to grease and over time the grease will turn into an abrasive grinding paste which may cause you further problems. Kev

knwatkins do you find the silicon spray works right away or does it take a few applications to eradicate the squeaks ( albeit only for a while ) I will probably change the RRS in 12 months when the warranty expires and depending on how the experience goes may trade up to a newer RRS. If I got a few months out of each application of spray Id be happy,.

I've only ever used it to solve a squeak once on another vehicle. I sprayed it once and the squeak returned after about 3 days. I then gave it another spray and it never came back.

I now just give all the bushes a spray as a preventative measure whenever I'm under the car. Whether it makes any difference or not I don't know. It just makes me feel better Laughing Kev

The rubber absorbes the silicone so in my opinion it’s not doing any harm so no loss. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Well a week into ownership and so far so good. Managed to suss out the DAB.
I transferred the USB stick from my Merc to the Range Rover and was working great, however I decided I needed to refresh the playlist on it. It then decided not to work so Ive tried 4, 8 16 and 32GB USB's formatted in different ways and keep getting device not recognised now. I should just have left it as it was Sad
Apart from the squeaky bushes nothing untoward to report.
Changed the number plate bulbs to LED and considering changing all interior to LED in the next week or so. I also keep looking at 22" alloys Smile
