Afternoon all, after a quick search of the forum i cant see that anyone has mentioned about the hand brake being seized in the off position.

i was parking on a slight incline so decided to apply the parking brake and the deadly squeel sounded. Big Cry but to my amazement the parkging brake was not engauged and i could drive without worry. (thankfully as i was over 300 miles from home on day one of four of site visits around northern Scotland)

i tried the unjam procedure with my Gap IId tool and this failed three times with nothing moving. (except the squeel) has anyone expericend this before and if so what was the cure?

im thankfully back home now with no other issues......

You are aware of how the parking brake system works?

ie. the auto release function

Just asking if it could save you some work, you don't mention if you have any amber/flashing/other warnings or fault codes read with the GAP IId tool you have used.

This Brake Bible by a guy on the Disco4 forum explains all and is a great reference..

i personally replaced both the brake pads, shoes & bearings. so i accept full responsibility for the impropper adjustment.

All i need to know is what tools (other standard) are required to open up the cover and manually release the jammed mechanisim.

ie long driver / sockets etc (lengths would be good to know)

i have tried the unjam routine in the IID tool which did not work, and i assume this is making the situation worse as the handbrake is in the off position...

Why start a new thread on this? we all make mistakes and don't laugh. (maybe a wee giggle but no harm)

For the continuity it's better just to finish off in same thread, might be useful to some, better double check your work or like...

Evening all,

I have a free weekend so determine to get this sorted once and for all.

I am going to remove the rear section of exhaust to provide better access as the heads of the screws appear to have been previously worn down I plan on using a dremmel to cut a slot into the head so they can be unscrewed...(hopefully after a good dousing of penetrating oil)

can someone please point me in the right direction of replacement screws both for the Handbrake module and also the exhaust connection.

thanks
