Headlight fault u1a39-87

Default Headlight malfunction. code u1a39-87
My gap tool showed the following.

Adaptive headlights don’t dance don’t move and are stuck “cross-eyed”. showing “code u1a39-87 communications malfunction of right actuator - bus signal/message failure missing a message.” (Left light points right, right light points left.

I have tried researching solutions. Some say that it is a ground issue. At least one indicated that it was a software issue and that a dealers updates would resolve the problem.

Is there a way to test the ground on the headlight plug? If so. How? Electrical issues are not my strong suit.

By by the way, if you are using your gap tool for diagnostics be sure that you are using a backup power supply, ie a good charger. My battery went flat in about ten minutes while scanning and reading codes.

Thanks. Phil

It sounds like a new battery is required.

It may even fix the headlight issue too!

these Cars are sensitive to old batteries

Never had that problem when just scanning codes. Try fully charging the battery and see if your errors go. Monitor the battery to see if it's holding / losing charge. Might be a dying battery, might be a tired alternator, might be short journeys. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It has a brand new battery. The alternator is only putting out 12.75. It starts at 13.25 when first started and drops to 12.75 within two or three minutes. Truck has 41000 miles. Headlights have been non moving and cross eyed since I got it st 15800 miles. Phil

Alternator looks suspicious on those figures. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

reporting back We had two issues. 1. female plug in the engine compartment fuse box was faulty. As I recall, it was the alternator fuse, 5 amp. We installed a stand alone fuse and it sorted the problem, for a while. 2. problem came back big time. turns out it was a bad ground. Had a new ground installed at a different location and all is well. However I still have the headlight fault. Low beam lights are crossed. Help......

Have you swopped headlights over to see if the fault code moved? A similar issue on a disco 4 was an internal wiring fault on the headlight unit. 2012 5.0 SC AB

crossed headlight issues continue. I removed the left headlight and was able to take a small flathead screwdriver and manually turn the wormgear to straighten the low beam. It looked great. I plugged it in and turned on the headlights. Dang low beam shifted over crossed again. The motors work, I am wondering if I have a bad wire somewhere between the afs module and the headlights. I am in the USA with a left hand drive model. It looks like the AFS module is on the left side fender side of the footwell, as opposed to the right side on the right hand drive models. Ideas?
