Bit late to the party here, but the plastic cap on the end of the compressor where the air pipes come out have been known to crack between the pipes. I had this on my D3 and diagnosed it by spraying it soapy water and watching for bubbles. I bought an aluminium one off ebay for about £35 and fitted it on the driveway in about half an hour. I guess because it hadn't been overheating for too long the compressor itself wasn't goosed and I got away with it.

you can always disconnect the thick wires to the compressor and see if the fuse no longer blows |

Howler... I’ve used these before for a compressor and it is the exact make and fit. I think LR use this make now
