Hi all

I have a 2006 Range Rover Sport 2.7td.
Lately when I have been driving on the motorway or at least at speeds of 50mph and higher sometimes I feel a nipp or a yank in the steering wheel, from 1 to 4 or 5 small nips. Very strange. you dont feel it in the car, it does not change direction or anything but it is very uncomfortable when you are cruising along smoothly and then these nips. It is not much, if we think of the steering wheel as a clock it is about 2 or 3 minutes of movement but you feel it very well.
I have studless winter tires and studdet winter tires on seperate set of wheels and it does it on both sets so it is not the wheels/tires. I have new lower arms and tie rod ends and track rods, new lower steering column, new wheel bearings (all the most expensive Advance Factors had to offer) so that should be fine...
I have been thinking what it might be. Drive shafts ? Front diff ? (no other sound from there, grinding or nothing), bad power steering pump, bad serpentine belt....

Any masters out there that know or have an idea what might be wrong ??

Rack?

My D3 had a similar issue at Motorway speeds and on certain types of roads I'd get what felt like a 2-3 degree of centre shimmy/judder that was more violent than wheel wobble. Changed bushes, checked wheel balance, about to give up hope and then changed the rack and the tugging went.

Could be the universal joint on the steering rack
My last RRS started out with a clicking, then to intermittent stiffness and finally to slack in the steering. I replaced the below and all was well.
They used to be around £90, but now they appear to be considerably more.

 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It has to be the rack, pump or belt I think.
I will monitor it an see if/when it gets worse I will figure something out.
