Prospective RRS Owner - Newbie Questions - Petrol Advice Pls

Hi,

I have searched he very useful RRSPORT.CO.UK website with my query and others but there is seems little real world information on the RRS 4.4 HSE.

Any examples of what to expect will be appreciated.
The seller of a car i'm looing at advises he gets 24 MPG on motorways (with cruise control). Just under 20 in town. Is that realistic?

That seems frugal when as another poster wrote that the SC is similar in consumption to the 4.4.

Is the 4.4 a rare car? I.E. Do many, if they want petrol just buy the SC?

Has anyone chipped the 4.4 to make it a bit more petrol X5 like in terms of performance?

Have just been to a LR dealer and was told that the 4.4 is like hens teeth. Why so rare? Is it not a good compromise between performance and fuel consumption?

Get the SC. The 4.4 will get no where near the mpg you've been quoted. The 4.4 is the least popular of all engine available. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Arctic Frost

Hi and welcome i might not be able to help you much because mines a 2.7diesel, which around the country lanes where i live is only doing 21mpg now, i would have thought that the figure that you have been quoted is a bit on the high side.

If i wanted a petrol i would buy the S/C, but thats me, i would have thought that the 4.4 would not be such a desireable vehicle when it comes to selling therefore it would be represented in the price.

4.4 is likely to suffer price wise when you sell. If you want to be frugal buy a diesel to get the mpg you've been quoted Or fit the 4.4 with LPG.
Otherwise if you want performance buy the SC. TDV6 - gone

2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Java Black

OK I'm biased because I've got a 4.4, but...... I'm really happy with it. The performance isn't as good as the SC obviously, and the fuel consumption isn't as good as the TDV6 obviously. But as a compromise, it lies between the two - it's faster than a diesel and doesn't cost as much to run as a SC. Having driven the SC at Gaydon last year, I really enjoyed it. However, single figure mpg (I kicked down a LOT), would kill me, {even if the speed didn't!!}
So I would say nothing wrong with 4.4 - it is a compromise. Not sure about relative 2nd hand values - mine's 1 year old soon and I don't think it's declined in value any more or less than a diesel! I may be wrong!
I did go into the dealers with the intention of buying a Supercharged, but came out happily with a 4.4 and 7500 pounds more in my pocket than if I'd gone for the SC.
It's all a matter of personal choice. Personally I've got the Defender for economy and going really slow and the VFR for going really fast when I feel the need.
The consumption figures given to you are not real world. I get 18-19 on the motorway and 15-16 around town.

Don't you think the 4.4 is a good balance between performance and consumption? I found the TDV6 to be to slow. Although I didn't drive a chipped one.

I'm looking at a June 06 HSE with £6000 of extras for £40,000.
Seems to me to be pretty good deal.

I paid cash and got 500 pounds off. I saved another 7000 by not buying the SC.
I've had 6 Range Rovers - all petrol. I never liked any of the diesels offered. The TDV8 is the engine it should always have had. Petrol RRs have never been known for their frugality with fuel and the 4.4 and SC are no different. If you can afford to buy and run a SC it's the way to go - more fun and smiles. As an everyday user the 4.4 suits me. It's fast enough to get plod interested (I've had 6 points for speeding since getting it). If I'd got the SC, I probably wouldn't have my licence now!!!!
I reckon you've got a good buy for 40 grand there. My advice is, if you are going to buy the 4.4 - DON'T test drive a SC !!!! Range Rover Evoque 5 door on order.

appreciating the fuel consumption is worse on the SC, I'd always be thinking I'd bought the wrong car if I'd opted for the 4.4 - especially after seeing Misery's White SC
