Had a chat with my dealer today about depreciation. His estimate is that the following drop has been experienced over the last 12 months.

Interesting. Suppose we're seeing these figures being borne out on trade in's. Retail values will be a bit higher. I think that the supercharged will just keep losing money. A friend sold his ML55 (about 4 years old) for £17,000. That was a £65+ car. Also, lack of real waiting lists on the TDV6 will soften rates but I reckopn demand will remain high. (I'm looking forward to buying one!). |

Hi Smarticus Presume your dealer was working on a new Jan 2006 vehicle, the valve today with so call average miles ?? ![]() "Book" valves for info are (dec book working on 12k and 06 55 Reg HSE spec) TDv6 HSE from £44k to £38.7k = £5.3k S/Charged from £58k to £44k = £14k 4.4 HSE from £50k to £38k = £12k Diesels are keeping better residual valve nowadays, So hes is not a million miles out, just being a bit hard, ![]() www.wessex4x4response.org.uk http://forum.innovate4x4.com G4 RRS Gone |

How much do you think I should value options such as Dynamic Pack, Phone, Ipod, Side Steps etc? PS - RRSPORT.CO.UK is a very positive and helpful community. Thanks again. Newbie PauloAmore. ![]() |

PauloAmore - Afraid many optional extras can add very little additional value on a trade in. My dealer had a totally loaded 9 month old D3 for sale (with DVD player installed). He reckoned that all the extras would have cost £4,000 but only increased its resale value by about £1,000.

Smarticus - this year? Wow, that's be another mega drop on the car. So you figure depreciation of "another" 25% this year. That'd be nearly 50% in 2 years. Well ahead of regualar cars and busting SUV norms. I'd thought it would slow down abit. I was looking at a 4.4 for £39,500 on Autotrader. Figured a £17K saving in 6 months was quite good going. Maybe not..... |

SUV "Petrol" norms are 50% in 2 years. Look at contract hire rates for big petrol SUV's and you'll see what the "experts" expect the depreciation to be (and how much more severe than a diesel). The cost of a vehicle is not what you pay up front, its the difference between the price you pay and the trade in when you sell. That will always be less in a diesel. So don't be tempted into buying a petrol to save money. They will always cost you a lot more than a diesel, to run and own. I reckon the cheapest RRS to own over the next 12 months will actually be a TDv8, which I figure on losing £8k. That 4.4 you are looking at will IMHO lose £10k. The cost of financing the difference between £39,500 and £53,000 will be about £1,000 a year, but at 10,000 miles the TDv8 will save you about £3,000 in fuel costs alone. So there you go, a TDv8 is a lot cheaper to own than a second hand 4.4 (jeez, I am sounding a bit like Kam - but then again I am an accountant too....). thanks smarticus. that's quite a powerful argument for the TDV6. What'll she be worth in 3 & 5 years? Crystal ball i know. |

My guesstimate for a 2006 TDv6 (bought new before the price hike) is as follows :

I'm sorry. I meant the TDv8... ![]() (above looks v. reasonable though) You said that the TDV8 will save about £3000 in fuel alone. An exageration no? I reckoned that over 10,000 miles the SC would burn around £2500 fuel (total) assuming 85p per litre. |
