Well done. Keep up the good work.

I had the same thought as you about not wanting to put the EGR's back on.

However 2 things stopped me.

1. You need a larger EGR blanking plate
2. I was concerned there would be no water circulation past the engine temp sensor if the coolant pipes weren't present.
3. I think the electric motor end of the EGR may still need to be fitted otherwise it would throw up fault codes (but maybe no message on dash?)

So in the end I thought sod it, it will be quicker to bolt these back on.

Just don't forget to put the headshield over the exhaust manifold before fitting the EGR !

Cheers Andy. OK next to go on will be the heat shields, 3 of them I think there are, then I will put back on the EGR valve. RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

OK, I didn't take the advice given to me when taking off the left hand side heat shield guards around the exhaust manifold area. So I'm stuck trying to sus out what one goes where. I have 5 guards to fit. I have the exhaust manifold one fitted OK which leaves four to fit.

Any pictures of that area would be appreciated.

I take it the right hand side is a mirror image, could I use the RH side guards as a reference to fit the LH side? RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

yeah I regretted not taking pics too.

Although I did mark some of them and assemble them while off the car.

Yes use the drivers side as a guide.

I think the main thing to ensure is that the shield is fitted over the exhaust manifold prior to EGR being fitted.

Once that is done I guess you can get the engine running before worrying about the others. Question

Yes thanks Andy. I did however manage to get another one of them damn heat shields on, well I made it fit in Thumbs Up

Yeah, this is not critical for the build back up as you quite rightly say but will try and figure them out before I move on then I think EGR valve next and the valve/rocker cover to fit then all the other pipework properly attached me thinks. RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

Yeah I make the mistake thinking the heat shield went ontop of the EGR rather than the manifold.

I got the car all running without the heatshields, no aux belt, no coolant, just for 2 mins.
still on axel stands. (took suspension fuse out)

Those heats shields take so long to put on and didn't want to find a problem with the car and have to take them all off again Big Cry

To also check no leaks, no exhaust blowing etc.

Took ages to get fuel into the system and for the car to start. Even sprayed some stuff into the inlet.

Managed to get the heatshields on and then tried to get the EGR on but cannot get the bottom bolt in. Think I may have to take shields off again and access the bottom EGR bolt through the wheel arch? But even with shields off not sure if I can access that bolt as main silver turbo pipe may be in the way!!! other option is take EGR back out and put the bottom bolt in first then put EGR back in... not sure though. RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

I think we are talking cross purposes.

Mine had a heat shield on the exhaust manifold, to protect heat rising damaging the EGR.

The heat shields which block up the wheel arch, I left right till the end when car running.

I think so Andy. I fitted the the exhaust manifold heat shield first of all then fitted the ones that cover the wheel arch area. I will take them off again (marking them this time Thumbs Up) and see how the access is. Cheers RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

Got most of the LH side back together.

Got most of the gubbins stripped off RH side head..

Any hidden bits I need to know about when taking off RH side? for example does the big breather part in the middle/rear need to come off to access all the rocker cover bolts?

Is there some sort of vacuum pump on the RH side that I need to deal with? Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

When you say breather. Do you mean the black plastic part ? Or metal pipes?

The metal pipes need unbolting from the back of the head.
So I guess the plastic part needs removing too. That's easy when the cam cover is off.

There are 2 tiny metal vent pipes (gearbox, txbox) bolted to the rear of the head.
One is clipped to the other so 1 is easy to remove.
The other requires unbolting.
Once head remove photograph brackets as it isn't that easy to understand where brackets fit to head.

The vacuum for brake servo can stay there

I should have taken a picture of it but yeah I mean the plastic part. OK cheers Andy I will have another go tomorrow. Got to admit though was good to get the LH side mostly done today. Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

Tried to lift RH side head off but still attached to something, please see picture...

Does the vacuum pump stay attached to the head when lifting it off, also the bracket I have highlighted in red, does that come off before lifting head off? RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

As I said there are 2 things below that bracket which need unbolting.
A large bolt for the breather pipes and a small bolt for the tiny breathers.

That bracket and pump stay there
I find a mirror is good to see what's down there

I thought I had every bolt out from behind the bracket that holds pipes etc; on but the head is still hanging on for dear life. I do feel one very small 8mm bolt way down the back, no idea how I will get that one off right enough. But yeah the RH side has been really straight forward until I hit this nightmare snag, oh well hopefully get it off some other time. Thumbs Up

BTW chain was still intact on the RH side but there was one snapped bearing cap bolt and a handfull of the other bearing cap bolts that were very slack. RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey
