Front lighting system

OK, next project 😉 - front lights.

Cornering lights. How do I know I've got them (the topix build sheet says I do) and how do I know they're working? Do I have to have indicators on?

Main headlamps. Should they turn a little when driving round bends? I was expecting them to, but they don't seem to. What would topix call them?

Auto high/dip beam. I have this and it works (as far as any such system can).

Daytime running lights. I don't seem to have them. The auto on/off main lighst work but when they're off, they're off. No running lights? I can put sidelights on manually, but that puts the rear lights on too.

Comments welcome

The headlamps do not move.
If you have cornering lights, they are individual small lamps one each side that come on when cornering if main lights are on.
Earlier models they only come on when turning with indicator switch on.
Later models and MK2 versions generally come on automatically when cornering slow enough to trigger.

Daylight running lamps are a option dealers can turn on, or yourself if you have a GAP IID BT Tool or similar.
Myself feel they are pretty pointless in the UK, and lights come on if required or by the use of fingers on switch. Wink John

Isn't my profile complete?

You're right about the cornering lights, a bit of experimentation in a dark car park has shown that I just need to turn the indicator on for the cornering light to come on too. Don't have to be moving, don't have to turn the wheel, just turn indicator on (as long as the headlights are on) . The cornering light stays on as long as the indicator is held on. Just touching and releasing the indicator means it flashes on and fades quickly.

Disappointing that the headlights don't turn with the wheels, I was expecting that on a car of this sophistication/price.

As to daytime running lights, I'll check with the dealer to get them switched on. As a former motorcyclist, anything to get you seen is a good thing to my mind.

Thanks for your comments 👍

Don't be too keen to wish for something you don't have! Adaptive lights are ok but don't make a huge difference to what you can see when say driving around twisty lanes. However when they go wrong, they will potentially cost you £1000 per side to replace and no serviceable parts!

Cornering lights, however, I find really useful. Mine come on if with a turn of the steering wheel (or when I use indicators) when my speed is below about 30mph Robin

Topix will tell you in detail car spec. Alternatively, park your car with the front facing a wall. Then start it when it is dark and you should see the headlight projection "dancing" on the wall at start-up as the lights adjust themselves. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Turn ignition on. does an orange headlight symbol light up (as a check) on the dash. (in speedo cluster)
A headlight pointing forward in orange.

If yes, you have AFS
