Ive got this that my late father used to keep his Rolls Royce battery charged as the car rarely went out (I now have it for sale if anyone is interested,it's a Shadow 2 in factory white)would this be ok to keep the RRS battery topped up.

Having searched for it on Google, it looks like quite an old piece of kit. Apparently it was intended to charge motorcycle batteries, so may take a long time to charge a RRS battery in any state of discharge. It seems capable of automatically varying voltage and current to suit the battery state, so shouldn't do it any harm, but maybe only as a slow trickle charger. Having said that, they are relatively cheap nowadays so why not buy a new one? The Ctek ones are very good, I've used them for years, and I've never heard of anyone having bother with them. |

A week is a long time to charge a battery, though. It would have been quicker with a higher amperage charger, and better for the battery. A more modern one would have a de-sulphating phase as well. |

The one I have stops charging once it reaches its voltage so it doesn't damage the battery.

How often are you driving your sports to need to put them on charge? I'm wondering if I need to fit a charger to mine, which moves maybes 4 times/week. |

What length of trips are you doing on those 4 trip D-9? If you are only moving it on the drive or running to the local shop and back a couple of miles then the battery will be low in no time, so you may want one. My present RRS2 sits for 6 weeks at a time when I am working abroad and even without a conditioner attached has never failed to start even in the depths of winter with very low temperatures, but it does get run for a 30-40mile each way trip at the end of those 6 weeks by my brother and then left again for another 4 weeks until I get home. I have never used a conditioner/CTek charger on my L494 RRS, I needed it on my 2011 and 2014MY Evoques and the 2010MY FFRR I had though but LR has change the type of batteries and also the programming of the Battery Management System is much better than it was in 2010. I also always leave my car in access height, even overnight on the drive, as that puts all the system into "sleep" mode and helps preserve battery charge. The latest 2017MY RRS's automatically lower to access height when you stop now. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks Tim, it varies a lot, quite often its just 5 miles or so to the shops, with 30-40min runs at least once a week. |
