Heated windscreen fault on near side

Hi. I recently noticed the the left hand side (near side) heated windscreen element not working. The right hand side clears instantly and the left hand side stayed fully frozen with the exception of two lines slightly defrosted top to bottom.
I've checked both 30amp fuses and are OK... Does anyone know if their are any more basic checks I can carry out to identify and repair the issue.
Many thanks in advance for at least reading this...

I've just had exactly the same problem with my 18 month old L494 RRS and apart from checking the fuses the only other thing to check are the connections. As my car is still under warranty I left it to the dealership to check those out - their conclusion was a replacement screen for my car............. You might have to have an unfortunate collision with a stone and claim on your insurance for a replacement screen.................. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hi Tim. Thanks for your response but i forgot to mention my vehicle in question is a 2006 'L320' model. I imagine this will be a touch more primitive than the new model you're referring to.

I don't think things have changed that much.

Thanks Andy
Can the relays be checked and if so which ones are they?

my 2006 is exactly the same I've been told the screen needs replacing as the elements are worn out.

I think there is only one relay these days for the windscreen (under the bonnet), so if one side it working the relay is ok.

One relay, two fuses for the front screen. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for the useful info.....definitely sounds like a new screen required.

I have an 06 2.7 with a similar problem.
Swapped one fuse for the other, relay OK as there is only one and half the screen is working. Removed A pillar trim, disconnected screen and checked for resistance across the screen element - not open circuit so assumed OK. Reconnected screen, switched on and checked voltage - full charge voltage - so screen is getting power.
Conclusion - whilst the element is intact it not creating enough resistance for the screen to heat u sufficiently. As it is the passenger side I'll live with it, rather than potentially open a can of worms by having a screen fitted!
