United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver
Looking at an 06 Sport tomorrow - advice please.

Good evening,

I looked over a 2006 Sport on Saturday, it drives very nicely, almost everything seems to work as it should, has good history and needs a spot of paint here and there - nothing serious.

The only thing that worried me was that the touch screen doesn't work. The Land Rover logo comes on as it should and the screen then changes to white with the menu boxes for satnav, entertainment, drive config etc but when I touched the screen to select one of them , nothing happened.

Is this a common issue with these cars? How easy/difficult cheap/expensive is it to rectify?

I currently have a 1999 Discovery 2 as a second car/family workhorse and am looking at an older RRS to replace it.

I was blown away with the interior of the RRS, very nice quality interior and the drive was excellent too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.......................Phillh

I wouldn't say the sat nav was a common problem and it probably won't be a cheap fix- otherwise the seller would have fixed it. There's plenty of good ones out there- if there's stuff wrong that you've discovered there's probably stuff wrong you haven't. What mileage and spec is it?

Bladeboy,

Thanks for your reply. Its an HSE with 108k miles, sunroof and rear entertainment system. I have put a deposit on it with the condition that he gets the screen fixed. He is going to try and get it reflashed at a LR dealer first, failing that he will order and fit a second hand screen which are available for around £175.

The rest of the car is very good, full LR history, receipts for cambelt change and a lot of suspension components too. I intend to buy a Hawkeye pretty soon, my garage is pretty well equipped and my son and I are pretty handy with spanners etc.

Good. You need to be handy with spanners.

You can recalibrate the screen. But the way I know needs the screen working to enter that mode!

Update,

I picked the car up today. The dealer had tried to get the screen working without success so he has ordered a used one from ebay and said he would get it installed for me when it arrives.

Very pleased with car, drives very nicely, very quiet and refined, a major improvement over my old Discovery 2.

When I got it home, I treated all the leather and gave it a deep clean. I then (to cut a long story short) stripped out the satnav screen and unit, took it apart and cleaned it up. There was some debris along the bottom of the screen glass and I suspect that had been shorting out the contacts.

Anyway its all back together now and the satnav is working perfectly.

Brilliant! If I took my sat nav apart it certainly wouldn't go back together!!

No sorry I didn't take any pics.

I found this video very helpful

It shows how to remove the trims and air vents, the unit is then accessible.Stripping down unit just involved removing about 10 cross head screws.

Difficult bit was removing (and refitting) the side panels next to the glove box and instrument console.

Phil
