iPhone or Android dash cam

I've been thinking of getting a dash cam but before I do (not wanting to sound silly) has anybody used a spare phone as a dash cam are there any descent apps for either an iPhone or an android phone that will allow you to use it as a dash cam? Cheers Laurence.

I have used my phone to record video on a couple of off road days. The problem I've found is that it often focusses on the windscreen heater wires which means everything else is totally out of focus. If you can solve that - there might be setting to turn off dynamic focussing perhaps - then it should work. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

dashcam = Small and discreet and can be left in place (most are anyway)

iPhone stuck to the window = smash and grab and a repair bill
