Hay guys
I have an RRS TDv8 2008 and I have developed a clicking sound from the auto gear shift area. The clicking has only just started and it happens when I touch the break pedal on and off while it is in park or neutral. have recently changed the break light switch at the back of the break pedal I was thinking maybe its a faulty one. Also the MPG is reading very low too.
Please could anyone give me a clue of where to start first as I have a feeling its an elimination game again.

Also I have read a few threads on this noise being normal that the pins are just engaging and disengaging but I have had this car for a year and I have never heard it before. It has to be a solenoid of some sort failing it just has to be ?

I have this as well but mine is only in neutral. As you say press brake pedal up and down click click from the gear stick I'd like to know as well. Not causing no issues.

Shift interlock solenoid. I'd say it's normal to hear it - perhaps since the brake switch has been changed, it happens more readily so you're now noticing it?

I'm one of those guys that as soon as I hear a knock or a click or feel something that just doesn't feel right then I want to know what it is I know I'm my own enemy but its just the way I am but I can honestly say the break light switch was changed a few months ago and all was ok but this morning when I started the car an changed in to drive I heard the click from the pedal and felt the click from the auto changer so I kept pressing it and it just kept clicking. Its really annoying now.
the sound is more noticeable from the auto stick.
why now though why the noise now?

Since the power to the solenoid is provided by the Transmission Control Module (TCM), it seems unlikely that it would actually make it louder, but the ECUs are significantly affected by the brake switch - not least the TCM - so perhaps it could be down to the behaviour of the ECU. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

sorry for being thick but what does that mean in English haha
ive just disconnected the brake switch and it came up with hdc transmition fault after connecting it the click is still there an the fault is now
I'm lost coz the car drives fine just the click noise is the problem.

It just means maybe the signal provided from the brake switch has been affecting the manner in which power is provided to the solenoid.

Have you remove the brake switch from its bracket? If you've disrupted it and it's now causing a fault, then if it wasn't damaged before, it probably is now - they're very vulnerable. If in doubt, fit a new one (be sure not to press the pedal when fitting or relese the plunger before).
