I'm looking at buying a Thule EuroClassic G6 928 to carry my bikes. It clamps straight on to a tow bar. I've been told that its not suitable for my detachable tow bar? Has anybody got one of these bike carriers and can confirm if it is suitable to for a detachable tow bar or not??  Cheers Laurence.

I have one similar to what you are looking at, mine is the Land Rover one but made by Thule. Never had any problems using it with a detachable tow bar and can't see why it would not be suitable. Did (whoever it was) explain why it would not be suitable for the detachable tow bar?

I have a Euroway 921 G2 that fits without any problems and has done so for 2 years with plenty of use

I've changed my mind on the model I'm going for the Thule VeloCompact 925 I think will be similar to yours - which by the way looks cracking on the back of your RRS This model seems much easier to store away and can be put in your boot instead of leaving on the back of your car when out for the day and using the bikes! Out of sight, out of mind !!

Paulcp Thanks for your posting I asked at my local indi LR specialist regarding fitting the electrics for me. When I told him what they were for he told me that the carrier was bolted on to the plate behind the towing ball and not attached to the tow ball. I was pretty sure this was not the case but thought it was worth asking the question before I spent the thick end of £300 then found out he was right

I'm having trouble locating one in my area (Southend) Plenty on the internet but I'd like to see one in the flesh (Its a man thing I'm sure?!) Halfords are Thule main distributors, they don't stock this model

I have a big motorcycle chain lock that I attach to the rack and through the bikes via the recovery point on the back of the crossmember to prevent the scum from nicking the rack. I think I may know the problem. My Thule bike carrier when mounted on detachable towbar is very close to exhaust. This has melted all the plastic wheel retainers. Maybe other tow bars have height adjustment to get higher than exhaust pipes?

I did wonder if the tow bar was a little low and that would be a problem with mine? I did a 7hr trip to Scotland from Essex and back then back without any issues I have the same Thule bike carrier on the back of my SDV6 I think my pipes are set back a bit more under the car Yours seem closer in the picture? I'm very pleased with the bike carrier I also go a cover to go over the bikes which once secured with bungees was perfect for protecting the bike on a long journey  Cheers Laurence.

I have the 928 G3 (I think) and oftern run it on the back of our Disc4 with 3 heavy Downhill bikes. I fact,
took it to Morzine in the summer, 1,800 mile round trip and no issues whatsoever. Definitly worth getting a decent lock to go through the bikes/wheels and then the towing eye or even the chassis if you can reach
