I have a 2012 SDV6 and have noticed the often talked about lag which i can live with, its usually just when its between gear changes. However just recently its doing something different.

When i am pulling away from traffic lights from a standstill and just setting off nice n steady about a second in from moving off the car feels like i have taken my foot of the accelerator, and just dies on me (engine still running) it then thinks about it for a second or two and then just carries on normally, it did it 4 times last night on a 5 mile journey.

The manufacture warranty has just expired but i did take out full land rover extended warranty with land rover assist, is it just a case of ringing them and they get things organised? Also when you have extended warranty do they cover the original diagnostics charge (if it turns out to be a part which is covered) or is it just the cost of the part + fitting.

Anyone any experience with this, I've left my warranty booklet at work, i will have a read on Monday too.

Talk to your dealer and see if there are any gearbox software updates outstanding on your vehicle. My 2012 had 2 gearbox software updates to try and combat the delayed throttle response. Other than that, start using the paddle shift and knock it down to 1st gear when setting off. Your vehicle has a default setting to set off in 2nd gear from standstill. It's just the way JLR have programmed RRS.

Update:
Rang the dealer today and they said whilst i have an extended warranty then the best thing is to ring Land Rover Assist.

Did that and told them there was no big emergency but they came out within 2 hours, he plugged it and no faults stored. he did say they have had a few of these with crank shaft sensors faulty and so he made a call and bumped me up the dealer Que.

Assist rang back and said drop it off in the morning and i could pick up a discovery to use which surprised me as i didn't think you got a car on extended warranty for the first few days.

Good service so far, just hope they find something as its getting a bit annoying.

Mine was around £1200 for the top warranty, which includes a claim limit upto the value of the vehicle. It also includes other benefits which I can't recall at the moment.
There is a cheaper option. Around £790 ish, with a claim limit of £3000. But £3000 doesn't get you very much at a main dealer with their hourly rate.

Got the car back today, great service once again from Guy Salmon at Knutsford.

It turned out to be the stop light switch faulty.

Been okay since i got it back. No quibbles with the extended warranty and i got a brand new discovery to use whilst mine was being repaired.
