Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

Hi Rogerdeflor, Thanks for your reply. I had stumbled accross this thread a while ago. And all my tyres are the same make and size allround. The fault code i have been getting is P0734 "5th gear incorrect ratio" which when you switch off the ignition it clears itself for a while. It could be three or four weeks between issues and then can happen 3 times in a row on the same journey. Gearchange in the low gears is fine, does not seem to kickdown very well and feels like it slips when going into fifth or sixth gear. which is when i get the Fault and Limited gears available on the information panel. Think i have either a solenoid going down on the mechatronic unit and or clutch pack worn. Either way seems to be costly repair.

Cheers
Mike

Mine also has an incorrect gear ratio fault, occasionally 4th gear, more frequently in 5th gear.

4th to 5th needs to.be done with minimal throttle input
5th to 6th is very lurchy and clunky

Got bad news for you... Big Cry

Hi Disco
I know the bad news is ' its going to cost a small fortune to fix the issue' But i have to look for somewhere to book here in for the work to be carried out. I am going to France this summer and was going to take the RRs on her maiden overseas trip as part of the Family Holiday. Also the bloody EPB has started playing up this week, getting a loud screech from under the RRs when applying the EPB and then getting the amber and red warining lights.

Cheers
Mike

I believe Bristol Transmissions are quite highly regarded on here. Thumbs Up

Make sure you stop using it before it's too late. Probably just needs an adjustment. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Adjust the shoes, as per Bodsy's Brake Bible, that'll save you at least a few shekels. If you've not done it before, don't worry, it's quite easy to do when you get down to it. Thumbs Up

Hi guys noticed something odd on my way home from work. Parked on the drive rrs in normal suspension mode, engaged epb and had the actuator / epb squeel/ screech. Dis engaged epb and lowered to access level, re-engaged epb with no screech/squeeling noise. Raised the suspension and tried again and applied epb to be met by the screech/squeeling noise. Lowered rrrs and no noise when epb engaged.
May take the opportunity to look for a wiring fault over the weekend, read somewhere that one owner found a chaffed wire near the n/s/r wheel arch area. Weekend of work spent under the rrs. No rest for the wicked. Twisted Evil
As for the gearbox will probably take it back to the people near Cardiff who did the gearbox service, they are a zf specialist, but have read good things about Bristol transmissions too.

Cheers all
Mike

The EPB screech won't be a wiring fault. What you're seeing is probably related to the change in geometry when lowering the car. Thumbs Up

Just don't let it screech any more or you will be looking at a new module. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Using the correct fluid is certainly very important. It's not something I'd take any risks with. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Hi all just an update on the gearbox issues. Towed the tin can to the gower this week and transmission fault happened on four occasions. Did exactly the same on the way home a few days later. RRS going in tomorrow for gearbox strip Big Cry I know its going to cost a small fortune to fix but got to go ahead with it now. Oh and roger I did check my tyres and guess what I had one rear tyre of a different make, and when I measured the two together there was at least a 3/8" of an inch difference in circumference. But alas this find did not alter my problems with my transmission mores the pity.
Thanks everyone for your input and good advice, always appreciate help in any form. Never be afraid to ask, that's what I was taught as a young apprentice mechanic and what I teach to apprentices in the aviation industry everyday. ( there's no hard shoulder to pull into at 30,000 feet!)

Many thanks
Mike

Hi DrRob, RRs is in the Garage with the Gearbox dismantled. Box is Knackered! the garage have sourced a Reconditioned Gearbox with 2yrs unlimited mileage warranty for me. so not sorted as yet but on the right road.
Total bill will be close to £3000, but hands are tied and have to go ahead and replace gearbox. at least i get some peace of mind from the 2yr warranty.

Cheers
Mike
