when i change the struts, shocks & airbags

so my shock absorbers are knackered x3 Big Cry
the car rides harder than my train does (literally i do actually drive a train) my question is this
when i put car into access mode it lowers down then raises up into extended mode, now i know this is common fault but could this be attributed to the shocks being worn out or more likely a height sensor, and as I'm replacing them in complete struts i.e. new strut with new shock and new airbag are the height sensors located on these struts or are they positioned elsewhere

cheers
lee

I've seen this happen with a very worn out shock absorber. Caused all sorts of problems, changed all the height sensors etc but was a worn out shock in the end. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

To answer the OP, the height sensors are mounted separately from the air suspension struts. You can change them separately. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
