Rear Light detterent.

Since, it seems from the number of posts on here, that rear lights are in danger of becoming a consumable I wonder if we could convince someone (even LR) to make a crescent shaped hard rubber or plastic moulding that fits (screws or glues) to the side of the lamp and closes the gap between the tailgate and the light unit.

Certainly, from the MY10 'Sports' with a one-piece tailgate, there is ample space (hence the ease with which the thieves gain access) between the tailgate and the side of the lamp unit.

Closing this large gap would stop the light being removed rearwards and also prevent access to the light's fixing screws without first removing the moulding which would, of course, require opening the tailgate.

I cant see it being expensive to produce a pair of moulds to enable either a carbon fibre or GRP unit for what would be a simple shape to produce.

Any ideas ?

Whilst I do agree, the rears are easy to make theft more difficult, it's the front which warrants more attention towards a solution.

^^^ To get an idea of the shape I was going to pinch some of my grandson's 'playdoe' and shut the tailgate on it to establish the clearance etc.

My thoughts were a piece of "L" shaped metal section pre drilled and black powder coated then screwed into side of lights to shield fixing screws. Removal would require boot opening to unscrew Smile

Maybe we could get a Bulk Buy together and ask someone like Ray@RLD to make them Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Had a good look at how the front lights could be better secured this morning & can see a potential solution. Just need to find a suitable bracket at B&Q to modify and will report back.

If my thoughts are correct JLR could mass produce this solution for relatively little outlay.

Still won't prevent them from being stolen but would require bonnet to be open and significantly increase the time required to take them off
