The TDV8 is one of the world´s quietest diesels. Laminated front and side glass and attention to details in removing noise sources have ensured that the TDV8 is up to 75% quieter.

than what? 75% quieter than a TDV6?

Apparently so... the TDV6 certainly isn't as tractory as the TD4 in the FL, but it's hardly the quietest diesel on the market.

I think so. I expect the new V8 is quieter with the bonnet up though and I guess there may also be extra soundproofing between the engine bay and the driver's ears.

it does sound very appealing from the specs - I'm sure I'll be more than happy with my TDV6 as long as I never have a test drive in a TDV8

Your TDV6 will be fine mate.... but it is an alluring concept (even if I would spend even more on fuel than I already do!)

I would guess the 75% is relateive to the previous diesel in the RR, the BMW 3.0 litre Td6. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

makes a bit more sense, though 75% seems a lot - I wonder if they are refering to dBA levels and hence 3dBA reduction halves the noise level (I think thats right?)

Given it's a figure that's been splashed all over the marketing for the new engine, I'd not take it as too much gospel... if it's got some of that V8 rumble to it, you might not want it to be too quiet Wink

United States 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey

You Brits had best order your TDV8 now, because once LR start selling that engine in the US, we will take all of their production. LOL. I have a S/C and I'm thinking of getting a new RRS with the TDV8 as long as I can get all of the 'toys' that the S/C comes with. Even in the land of $3 per US gallon , the increased fuel economy of the TDV8 will be very tempting.

And I don't think it's worth having. It's so bloody annoying, picking up lorries in the left hand lane in the radar picture and slamming on the brakes, not only annoying, but dangerous, motorists behind you must think you drive like a total arse. L319 D4 HSE
