I read up on this recently as my car needs it, there are a few topics dotted around here, and a few horror stories of places getting it wrong, too.

Yes, you need to put it in tight tolerance mode. No, you don't need to add weights - just fill the fuel tank to capacity. The weights are only needed if the tank is partially filled. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Presumably they haven't got the widget for putting the vehicle in to tight tolerance mode. Good to see they are being honest about it. (Or they may not have a ramp with the capacity to lift the RRS) 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Thanks for the input. Any other ideas anyone? Stockport isn't too bad for me, about 60 miles, so a bit closer to Preston/Lancaster would be great.

one of the best Indies in the North east is Team Valley landrover, they do a heap of work on Range rovers, i have been there a couple of times and find the guys really helpful. All of the guy's that run the place were previously at Stratstone landrover at Lemington so they really know their stuff as i said. They only ever use genuine landrover parts for their service / repair work and they are a good bit cheaper than a stealer.

problem i have is im from nr whitby so to me hatfieds pickering is 25miles, stratstone teeside is same and to gatehead would be 60 miles so unless the service is top class or the alignment is half price dare i say im better off at the dealers |

Update: I have booked the car in with DP Tyres at Wigan for this Thursday to have a four wheel laser alignment on the Hunter thingamibob. They also have the device to set it in tight tolerance mode but when I asked about the need for a full tank of fuel the guy checked and said that he didn't know anything about that.

So, I was well impressed by DP Tyres, two pleasant lads that seemed to know what they were doing. The Hunter initially showed some "red" results but not only did they adjust these out but they also pulled all the greens into the centre of the spec limits. Took about 50 minutes all-in, £72. I would reccomend them. |

For completeness, the bit about filling the fuel tank or placing equivalent weights in the car comes from the workshop manual. My local tyre place has a rack of various weights next to their alignment ramp. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
