I have been told my RRS needs a new air compressor.

However, I am a bit unsure whether to spend the monies for a new one and it not fix the "Suspension fault - normal height only" error on the dash.

Is it possible to get re-conditioned compressors? If so where from?

Also where is the compressor located and can it be fitted as a DIY?

I have the exact same fault on the dash and the car is in tomorrow for a new compressor.

However, as I understand the compresor failing could be due to overwork from having to top up a leaking system. If that is the case, then it would be worth checking for leaks before fitting a new compressor. If there are leaks, then you could just cook a new compressor once its fitted.

Apparently a "relay" is also being replaced - no idea which one or what it controls either. Will see if I can glean more details from them tomorrow. RRS 3.0D HSE 11MY - Fuji White, a few extras.

Where are you taking yours to be done?

I went to Shardlow 4x4 and he checked and did some diagnostics, they said if there was a leak on the air system they would be able to hear them so they were very confident especially with the diag fault that it was the compressor at fault.

Obviously I want to be sure that it is going to fix the problem.

Can you get a re-conditioned compressor? and can it be fitted as a DIY?

No idea about reconditioned compressor, but I believe it can be done diy as i read a guide on replacing the compressor just the other day, though this could have been an older model FFRR. I assume the concept is still the same though, its only a couple of wiring plugs and some air lines.

Mine still has warranty only being 8 month old so I havent done a huge amount of research, and its going to the local dealers to be fixed. Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield. RRS 3.0D HSE 11MY - Fuji White, a few extras.

If you have a leak (be it hole in "bag" , line or faulty valve), then your vehicle will be lower than normal after being left overnight (assuming it wasn't left in access mode).
You can always do a "Keith Moon" and park your car in a 3' deep pond and look for bubbles...

The relay that controls the running of the compressor can "stick" and run the compressor continually, leading to failure. For the sake of a few quid, you might change it first or with a new compressor.

It's also worth knowing that the yellow/Amber "wobbly car" dash light can result from a short in the wiring or dicky height sensor.

That would explain the relay being replaced on mine too.

I have been told the parts are revised so as to prevent it from happening again. Though I thought they were revised previously. Maybe they have changed them again.

I left my car in off road setting overnight and noticed no noticeable drop in height, but perhaps the car only showed a leak under stress/pressure of driving and cornering I dont know.

It might be worth doing this to see if it clears the fault first before the compressor.

It's in the battery junction box in the engine compartment.
Have a read of this.
If you can work a screwdriver without giving yourself stigmata, you should be able to change it.

car back, relay and compressor replaced. Touch wood no reoccurance of the problem yet. However there were days when it workd without a problem even while it was suffering the fault, so may be too early to give a conclusive fix. RRS 3.0D HSE 11MY - Fuji White, a few extras.
