Annoying front wheel tapping noise

Hi all,

Been a while since Ive been on here and I'm just looking for some assistance please.

Over the past few weeks, I have had a tapping noise coming from the front left wheel. U had the bearings changed about 4 months ago so I assume it cant be that altho the actual tapping noise itself sounds like a Newtons Cradle (see image) and is rotary driven ie. it taps in accordance with the speed i'm doing etc

My local mechanic reckons theres abit of give on the front left ball joint and suggests replacing that but also says it could be a few things. I'm slightly worried I'm leaving myself wide open to be screwed for a few quid. Has anyone experienced this or can anyone advise.

Thanks

Try swapping your wheel round with the back one, or check the inside of your front tyre

had the same problem with my dad's landcruiser last week....worn brake pads caused it.....but again....it could be a number of things, except the bearing....because then you would hear a continuous rubbing-like noise

Doesn't sound like a ball joint to me,as others have said stone or nail, also check your disc /pads for a stone my brother had this on his TT the other week,If you do go the ball joint route I have a spare front lower here.I ended up buying 3(don't ask) Thud

Thanks for the constructive replies folks and thanks to Mrfixit especially.

Obviously, a stone or screw was the first thing I checked for but it definately isn't that. My mechanic has already ordered a ball joint (thanks for the offer though Mr Fixit) so presuming that there isn't a stone in the brakes then this will be the first (and last hopefully) effort to rid my car of this embarrassing tapping noise.

Very Happy
