Posts: 19459 | No drilling needed. Just remove the roof running strip, then the plugs on the running strip and then the plugs that fit into the roof of the RRS (These are very difficult to remove but will eventually come out) 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Posts: 19459 | Sorry I'm only referring to the LR ones. The problem with any 3rd party ones is I would guess that you would have to remove the whole roof running strip to fit bars - this will look messy. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

The the prorack roof bar mountings come with a grubscrew that you screw into the holes in the roof, and then the rest of the rack attaches to this. It can be easily removed too when you don't want the rack on, and the bungs inserted back in (as long as you haven't trashed them when you pull them out

From looking at the caps on our car and trying to remove, I can see this being a nightmare as mine did not want to move when I tried.

Not due to the bars IMHO as previously I have had no issue with noise on BMW 5 & MB e-class estates. Rather the noise is generated by the Thule footpacks which are huge monstrosities and because they sit on the edge of the roof are right in the airflow
