United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Zermatt Silver

Apologies for getting back on topic (and you guys were having such fun!). I collect rainwater from my conservatory and greenhouse roof into water butts (5 of them) that are all connected together with hosepipe attached to the tap at the bottom (this way, they all stabilise at the same level). I then have a hose connected which runs to the front of the house (where I clean the car). I connect the jetwash to this. The big advantage is that you don't have to leather the car off afterwards (you can even let it dry in strong sunlight), 'cos you don't get any water spots. This is especially useful for you guys with black/dark cars.
Only problem is, that since various water bans, water barrels have been getting more expensive. I think I paid about £5.99 each for mine (a long time ago!).

My old man had a water butt set up but the water was always horribley dirty.

OK for watering plants and grass and stuff but I wouldn't have thought it would be good for washing a car.

After all, if you clean your car then it rains, you get all sorts of sand and s Censored t left on your car. If your using this to wash your car does this not run the risk of damaging paintwork? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Absolutely not, I clean the barrels out every 3-4 years, and the water is crystal clear. The sand and grit all falls to the bottom of the barrel, and because the tap outlet is 6" above this, it never draws any of the sediment out. Just to make sure, I have a garden water filter in the output hose which I rinse out from time to time, but it doesn't really get dirty.
When the barrels are full, the water is so clean, you can see every particle of dirt on the bottom. I also use it to fill up the windscreen washer, because you don't get the streaks of water spots like when you use tapwater.
Always make sure the waterbutt lids are a tight fit.

Are commercial car wash machines permitted to operate? They don't generally use hoses.......... although personally I wouldn't take any car of mine anywhere near one of those machines with the rotating brush systems. You will have to come to Scotland for a weekend break and wash the car at the same time, no shortage of water up here 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

clean water

now then children you might learn something have you ever seen the man with the big long pole cleaning windows....... he only uses filtered water the windows are not wiped afterwards...because the water is filtered there are no streaks .... tap water has a lot of impuritys etc...which leave streaks unlike pure rainwater... we use a rainwater tank to feed a pressure washer in a similer way due to low water pressure.... rainwater is free Exclamation we can easily wash a large tractor or digger on a small amount of free water Idea and tea tastes very nice Wink

ALL water belongs to the water companies and even if you collect it in the above way using a hosepipe is banned! I think Confused 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

OK stand corrected! Isn't it stupid that if I have a bath I can't then use a hose from the bath to water the garden! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
