When was the last time it's gearbox oil level was changed - LR claims it's sealed for life but it has since transpired that that is 3 years ie the life of the warranty! You may find a flush through and refill with new oil by a gearbox specialist will work wonders for the shift 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

EGR valves are available on eBay for about £125 per side. If you have an older car (pre MY07 IIRC) you can blank the valves. Blanks are available on eBay for around £10 but I read on the disco 3 site that a 2pence piece is the ideal size Whistle

Hi Tony

I have no idea if blanking the valves will rectify the problems you have had with the gearbox shifting in auto?

Possibly the car is recognising that the valves have failed and is in 'limp mode'? I am a little out of my depth here Whistle

Regarding the performance the info on the D3 site seems to be positive overall, they seem to think that the blanked engines run better, the only thing you notice is a slight increase in emissions, but apparently not enough to fail an MOT.

For the sake of 4p and a couple of hours with a spanner you could try to blank the valves and see if the system resets itself and then if the gearbox starts to shift properly again. There are comprehensive instructions on the D3 site, or just try googling 'disco 3 egr valve blanking'.

Personally I had 1 EGR valve fail at christmas, the symptoms I got was a complete lack of performance under 2500 rpm - gearbox worked normally tho'. Happily my car (also a 55 plate) has an extended LR warranty so the valve was replaced without costing me anything.

Let me know how you get on

Simon
